Jan 26, 2011 3:07 AM in response to KrisAdamsby lllaass,Have you reset your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. -
Jan 26, 2011 3:31 AM in response to lllaassby KrisAdams,Hey,
Thanks, just tried that. But still the same issue.
It seems a lot like the WIFI connection is not being used correctly by any Apps. Which does strike me as a software bug. Because, like I said, Safari works ace. -
Jan 26, 2011 3:35 AM in response to KrisAdamsby lllaass,Next would be restore from backup via iTunes.
Then restore to factory defaults/new iPod via iTunes
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. -
Jan 26, 2011 3:52 AM in response to lllaassby KrisAdams,This is a brand new iPod. So it seems weird to have to "restore"
But I will give it a shot. -
Jan 26, 2011 5:48 AM in response to KrisAdamsby JimHdk,If Safari is working but some other Apps are not it would appear that your network may be blocking traffic on port numbers used by those apps (e.g., other than the standard port used by HTTP, i.e., 80).
Check into this before restoring your iPod. -
Jan 26, 2011 6:47 AM in response to JimHdkby KrisAdams,I restored it anyway (Like I said, it's new, so I didn't lose anything).
Still the same issue.
I have set the proxy to work on port 8080. And my home router is configured myself. And I do not block any outgoing ports.
So your idea does make sense, but I am not sure that it is the case.
Does anybody have the new iPod touch, latest software version, and have the ability to connect fine to the Facebook app for instance. Then I can rule out a software bug. -
Jan 26, 2011 6:59 AM in response to KrisAdamsby JimHdk,There is no problem connecting with the latest iPod Touch/iOS and Facebook (or App Store) that I know of.
If you are using a proxy then this is likely the source of your problem -
Jan 26, 2011 7:05 AM in response to JimHdkby KrisAdams,I have the exact same issue on my home network (No proxy, no port blocking). -
Mar 17, 2011 7:58 PM in response to KrisAdamsby MSUR,Hi,
I have the same problem - but it is even more weird.
I can surf using Safari, browse apps in App Store, iTunes and some apps like Skype, Opera, Team viewer work very well over my home as well work wifi. But apps like Fringe, Nimbuzz, Vtok all gtalk related items says 'cannot connect to network, check your WiFi settings'.
By any chance, am I missing something in the settings, that Skype and other apps are able t figure out themselves .... -
