Can't manually add (drag) podcast to ipod

I can't manually add a podcast to my ipod by dragging a podcast in iTunes 10. The only way I can even see the iPod in iTunes is to select "Sync iPod". If I check "Sync iPod", I must select the podcast(s) I want to transfer to the iPod and click the "sync" button. Is this the only way to get a podcast onto my iPod? This seems to be a very different behavior than in previous versions of iTunes.

The article does not say one can manually manage podcasts the way one can manually manage music, audiobooks, movies, or TV shows. Notice that podcasts are not in the list of categories in the library pane.

I think this is because iTunes can't do this with podcasts, although I'm pretty sure I used to be able to do this in earlier versions. That is precisely the problem for which I'm looking for an answer or confirmation of the issue.

iTunes' behavior for manually managing podcasts changed for me as well with the latest update. At first I was alarmed, as you were. However, going back to the "summary" section of my iPod and checking "Manually manage music and videos" solved the problem for me.

I'm positive that this was checked before. The new update must have unchecked it for whatever reason.

"Manually manage music and videos" is already checked in my iTunes and it does not allow me to drag podcasts to my iPod. I can not add podcasts to my iPod from the library pane (dragging). I am able to delete podcasts from the iPod by selecting a podcast on the iPod from within the library pane and hitting delete on my computer keyboard. I can only add podcasts to my iPod by selecting "my" iPod in the library pane (i.e., not selecting the Podcasts category within the library pane), selecting the Podcast category from within the "my iPod" window, checking the "Sync Podcasts" box, checking the specific podcasts I want to transfer to the iPod, and then pressing the "Sync" button.

In addition to clicking "manually manage music" in the setup, you have to actually download the podcasts first before you can move them.

I just figured out that podcasts in your Podcast folder aren't actually there (they're just "available") until you download them by clicking on the down arrow to the right of the name. Once you click on the down arrow the podcast will download to your computer and a blue dot will appear to the left of the name. You should now be able to move the podcast to your other i-devices.
