After an OS update on my new imac the audio started cutting in an out when using the 828mk2. I reinstalled everything, except logic, ran the computer with nothing but the motu, used itunes to generate the audio and the problem remains. It works fine when using the internal audio. I worked with Motu "tech support" after sending a computer profile, down loading a special driver sending a kernel log they told me I have a hardware conflict that they cannot reproduce in the lab and I should reinstall everything again. The firmware is up to date and I am at total loss. Does anyone have a clue what is going on or if nothing else a recommendation on a new interface, no motu. I am going nuts.
Here's a possibility.
Did you install the OS upgrade with the MOTU plugged in?
Generally not a good idea as new OS components initialize and sometimes send out a bit of garbage data.
Try resetting the MOTU.
Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
Press the Setup knob
Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
Press the Select knob
Press the Value knob
Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable back in
Power the interface back on

Sorry that didn't clear the problem. I forgot to put into the post that I ran the Motu on an older iMac and it worked fine. Thanks for the input.
Oh well, it was worth a try, does sound hardware related... hope it's not the current implementation of Firewire.
MOTU support suggested the following steps to do as well as the steps to reset the MOTU from Pancenter. This will reset the circuit board (motherboard) inside the MOTU interface:
1) Unplug ALL cables from the MOTU interface.
2) Double check that the power cord is really unplugged.
3. Switch the voltage switch on the side of the MOTU interface from your setting (110 in the US) to the other setting and back a few times.
4) Make sure you've set the voltage switch back to the right setting for your country.
5) Plug everything back in.
...maybe this works for other MOTU interfaces too? I have had issues for a long time with my MOTU 828 mkII and these additional steps have fixed the problems I've had that would keep recurring before when I only kept resetting my MOTU the way Pancenter explained.
