Error 7 (Windows error 126)

Ok so this only happened today, it was working fine the other day.
I tired running iTunes, and an error up which read
"The program can't start because V3HUNT.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. -> iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)."

I've followed most replies in this forum, remove all Apple components(QuickTime, Apple Update, iTunes, etc.), update my .net framework to 4.0. It still shows this.

I once got to the point where it says "The ordinal 51 could not be located in the dynamic link library ODBC32.dll".

I somehow think this is connected to a Windows 7 error rather then iTunes. Would it help if I reformatted my computer?

I haven't heard of this dll before, but googling it it appears to be a component of Ahnlab hackshield. Do you have this? If so, could it be damaged?

One thing you can try is to disconnect from the internet and disable all security software and then try reinstalling iTunes.

I did notice a suggestion that this file can be malicious so it might be as well to run a malware scan with the free version of MalwareBytes.

You didn't say if if you have Ahnlab hackshield, if you do, deleting V3HUNT.dll is not something you want to do.
V3HUNT.dll is nothing to do with iTunes and I would not expect it to appear unless there was other software trying to use it.

Did you use malware bytes to do a full scan of your PC or did you just scan V3HUNT.dll? You need to do a full scan.

On the other dll problem ODBC32.dll
Try running SFC to see if that repairs anything.

You probably do have an underlying Windows problem causing this, I don't normally suggest reinstalling Windows unless things are very bad, but if you can do it without too much trouble, that would be one way out of this.

Ok I so I managed to remove the errors by pasting these .dll files into the iTunes folder at C:/Progam Files(x86)/iTunes.

I ran the SFC and indeed found a problem with ODBC32.dll, so I followed the instructions and replaced it with another from my sister's laptop, which ran Windows7 as well.

I think this may be only temporary, as many have linked these errors with viruses, malwares, etc.
Thanks for your help though.

Here is how I fixed the problem.

Uninstall Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes, and Quicktime. Basically any Apple software.

Download and re-install itunes, it will install all of the above.

Open iTunes. It now runs correctly.

I was having the same problem until I did this, and it fixed the problem right away.

Sit back and enjoy music.

I allowed Itunes to update and this error started to happen to me. Everything worked fine before this latest update. My issue is that we have reorganized our Ituned by Genre and probably 1/2 of my music (8000+ songs/books) never came up with titles so we spent alot of time doing this for Itunes. If I uninstall and reinstall will it remove these edits? I have backed up my music folders today to make sure but have not tried this before. I am not a novice and have alot of experience with PC repair. I am afraid of losing alot of time and effort.

I installed the iTunes version 11.1.4.62 update on Jan. 23, 2014 and the error messages started. I'm 99.9% sure the iTunes update is the root of the problem. I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled iTunes (version 11.1.4.62) and it still will not open (I still get the Error 7/Error 126 message). I'm also getting an error message when I reboot by PC that says there is an APSDaemon.exe - System Error. That message reads: The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. I'm not sure what program it is referring to. Apple iTunes I assume. Again the reinstall of iTunes did not fix the problem. I read about a fix for the latter (or maybe both problems at www.pcsupport.about.com that said to remove all Apple software in a certain sequence then reinstall iTunes to fix the problem. Have'nt tried that fix yet. I may just restore my system to an date earlier than Jan. 23, 2014 and see if that fixes the problem. I'm not sure if installing iTunes will fix the MSVCR80.dll problem. Lumenous: As long a you back up your music library before you uninstall/reinstall iTunes you should be OK. If I understand correctly the uninstall/reinstall will not affect your music library files (they are not deleted) but I always, always make a backup. I can't speak to the problem with your titles not being there after you reorganized by genre. I've done quite a bit of editting in my music library over the years (adding titles, artists, etc.) and never experienced that problem.

Glad to hear it kallykay.🙂 And your not a lame-o, you got it done!

I attempted to do a system restore to a point before the iTunes update but was never able to do a successful restore. I did the Apple software uninstall per the instructions on www.pcsupport.about.com. I uninstalled the software in the following prescribed order:

1. iTunes

2. Apple Software Update

3. Apple Mobile Device Support (this program was still in the list but really was removed)

4. Bonjour

5. Apple Application Support

6. iCloud (I had trouble uninstalling iCloud, no uninstall button, had to use the change button which brings up an uninstall option) iCloud also remained on the list after uninstall but a second uninstall confirmed it had been removed.

7. All other Apple programs (Quicktime, Safari, MobileMe Control Panel, in my case)

I then rebooted my laptop PC and reinstalled iTunes. All of the errors are gone. My songs, rating, numbers of plays, etc. are still intact. The "Apple Software Update" program was reinstalled with iTunes. I expect I will be prompted to download and reinstall the other removed Apple software.

Additional info. about post above:

Items 1-5 in the uninstall list above were reinstalled with iTunes. As I said above Apple Update will no doubt prompt for the download and installation of the rest.

I also ran SFC (system file checker) and it found some damaged files and said some could not be repaired (no specific file names were mentioned. This did not fix the Error 7/Error 126/MSVCR80.dll missing problems.

For those who may not know SFC is run from the Admin. Command Prompt. At the command prompt type:

sfc /scannow and hit enter and let it run (it will take some time).
