Iphone 3G wont turn on past apple logo! Please help!

It froze after attempting to delete my facebook app and I turned it off, tried to turn it back on and it wont boot past the apple logo screen. Ive googled the problem and I found that I needed to reset my phone by holding down the power and the home button (which I did) and plug into my computer while holding down the home button then a "connect to itunes" screen would pop up. Well, I did this successfully and Itunes said it had to download a new update for the phone. while downloading, the apple screen went off and the screen went black, Im assuming it turned off and when I tried to get it to the "connect to Itunes" screen again it wouldnt. I continued the process again and now it still wont get to the "connect to Itunes" screen and will only show the apple logo screen. I tried calling apple support and they want $30 just to talk to them. No thanks. Please help me. I have no idea what else to do.

PS...I am not tech-savvy and Im not great on understanding computer talk.

See if you force the phone into recovery mode:

Turn off your phone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone to turn off. If you cannot turn off your phone using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When your phone turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons. Then, leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. After restoring from backup, you must sync to restore your iTunes content.

I have the exact same problem. I deleted Facebook app and it froze. I powered it off, but even after I hold Home and Power, it won't turn on past the Apple logo.

I completed a "Restore" as described w/ newest iTunes installed but then after that, itunes still won't recognize it as a device and i'm back to where I started. I am still stuck at the Apple logo even after having Restored it.

I tried charging the phone via AC for a couple of hours, but still nothing. Could the battery be dead dead?

Whenever I try plugging the phone into iTunes, it is not recognized and when I hold the home and power buttons for a long time, that recovery screen w/ the graphic of the USB cable to iTunes logo comes up...even though I completed the Recovery/Restoration.

Any ideas other than taking it in?

Thanks!

Hi,

Thank you so much for your help. I was following your instructions and couldn't wait to get my iPhone working again. But in the process, with just five minutes to go on iTunes, my iPhone lost connection just like that (I didn't disconnect it or anything).

So I tried repeating the process again from step one by holding down the home button and the power button at the same time to turn it off. Now, it doesn't turn off at all. The screen just dims a little and the apple logo reappears again. Could you please help me on this one? THank you.

I had the same problem too. I have a 3GS with the latest software installed.

The facebook app screwed up the phone. I deleted the FB app... then reinstalled about one hour later. My phone kept on hanging and wouldnn't open other apps, so I did the forced shut down. After turning on the phone it only shows the apple logo and my laptop / iTunes will not recognize the phone. I can't even do a restore.

What can i do?

The EXACT same thing happened to me today! Tried to dl the newest FB app, it wouldnt run so I followed FB's instructions and tried uninstalling it to then reinstall it. The phone froze so I forced it to shut of (holding home and power button down) then when I went to restart it wouldnt get past the Apple screen. I must admit that I paniced a bit but thankfully I found this thread! The phone is being restored as we speak! Plus I always have my iTunes do a backup every time I plug in so my restored data will only be about a day old! THANKS!!!
