I can't access my iomega external hard drive

When I first got the Iomega, I could access it and save to it. Now it doesn't appear on my desktop, and the only way I see it is if I open Macintosh HD and I see it as 'idisk' below Macintosh HD. When I click on it it wants me to sign up to mobile me, but I don't have a credit card, so that's a no go.
Please help, as I have files I need to access

Hi Thanks for getting back to me, I was away at the weekend, so back now and,
it doesn't show up on disk utility, the blue light is on, but no spinning, and its a USB connection.
It just shows up as a device if I open the Macintosh HD as a window, and that's when it wants me to 'mobile me'
Hope this helps
thanks again

At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac.

Then click on More Info>Hardware>USB, does it show up there?

No idea why Mobile me is popping up.

"Try Disk Utility

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
