thats the big joke- all my stuff is synched already, nothing new, but still forced to back up before upgrade will load. trying again 5 hours 30% complete.

Finally decided to get my money back anyway, this thing is the worst piece of junk i ever had the misfortune to be conned into buying. my first and last apple purchase.

thanks Philly-phan. I would laugh if i wasnt already crying.

hee hee good one though. and the best advice i had today. I favour dropping it from the 101st floor whilst attached to the Ipad designer

7 hours and 50% complete; massive improvement-
all i had to do was delete everything from the ipad. How could i be so dumb, oh wait so whats the pont of a back up then !! So 7 hours to go but looks like the ipad battery will die in about 6 hours... it wont charge from USB (another prole apple want to ignore

Patience? yes I can see how that would come in handy if you are an apple user. I also get it, apple is for people who like to rebuild their systems in order to do even a simple task, making it simple would take all the fun out of it.

Well i been at this for 3 weekends now and Ipad and laptop out of use for most of that time. So yes patience has gone. What i dont understand is why everyone just accepts this nonsense.

Anyway appreciate the assistance.

Will look at some of the new tablets on the market and stick with my Vaio and blackberry for now.

I had the same issue. Another non-Apple forum said to delete "Zinio" reader apps. (such as the one used for National Geographic mags, etc.) It certainly did reduce the backup time, but now I can't enjoy mags / apps that use Zinio as a reader.

It was also very annoying and disappointing when I spoke to Apple Care or Apple Customer Support. They were totally clueless as to what the issue might be.

So get this...

Everytime I connect the iPad, iTunes comes up automatically. That was fine in the beginning. But after EVERY iTunes update, I had to 'Transfer Purchases' or 'Erase and Sync', not to mention that the backup would take hours.

I've always made the iPad sync on 1 PC, so why is it thinking that my PC is no longer 'authorized'...? That's when it occured to me that AFTER the iTunes update, my 'authorized' settings or something like that are somehow gone or clobbered by the update... So I disconnected the iPad, signed in to the Apple Store, re-connected the iPad and BAM! The backup of 10+GB was about 8 mins and the Sync message didn't come back. Go figure...

So try to sign in to the Apple Store and proceed to connect or re-connect your device. Hope it works for you.

I also LOVE the iPad, but the iTunes sync leaves a lot to be desired.
