DVD player error

I have a new 15" PowerBook.
The DVD player is not working.
I get the following message pop up:
There was an initialization error
Error: -43
Apple support say it is a software error and that I should wipe everything and reload.
I don't really want to go through all that and was just checking to see if anyone else had experienced this and maybe had a quick fix.

Let's try and explain things like this.
If you can put a commercial DVD movie in and it will play.
In a perfect world you should be able to just insert the DVD and it should mount and play. If not you will have to click on Mac HD and Applications and scroll down to DVD Player and click on it until the black screen opens, and then put in the DVD Movie, It should start on it's own.
All of that being said this will verify that the DVD Player will recognize and play a DVD.
Next if the problem your experiencing is a copy problem then we have eliminated part of the issue. So it has to be in the method you are using to attempt to burn or the media you are trying to use.
Please be specific as to exactly what your problem is.
Initialization error, How and when do you get it. Is it when you try to burn or is it when you put in a blank DVD.
Are you using the disc utility to try and burn, or are you using iTunes, or iDVD or are you using 3rd party software such as Toast.
The use of the DVD Application is not as cut and dry as most users think it should be, there is a lot more to the use of DVD Applications than just putting in the media. there are certain things performing different functions that have to or need to be done.
The use of top of the line Software is a first step, this allows you to use one thing to burn any and all applications. Roxio's Toast 7 is the absolute latest up to datest, Audio, Copy, Video, Disk Copy, this software enables any type of copy feature. Fast quick easy drag and drop.
Please be specific as to why you say your player isn't working. The very beginning tells you how to initiate the Player.
The Media you use can also be an issue. so tell us all not just that you are getting an error. What error we know, but when and what are you doing.
