Laserwriter 12/640 PS paper feed

A couple of years ago I encountered a problem with my laserwriter 12/640 PS. It used to default to the cassette for the paper feed. I really don't remember what changes software wise, but it is annoying to always have to select the cassette standard option when printing. I have selected the cassette as installed and preferred in the system preferences, but every time I print I still need to change the paper feed to cassette standard otherwise it will default to the multipurpose feed. Any advice how to permanently correct this issue? Thank you.
