Error code -1309?

Hi all!

I was trying to copy two ISO image files to my external hard disk and half way through the process, a message popped up saying 'Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. (Error code -1309).", it only happens when I try to transfer those file onto the hard disk, transferring other files are absolutely fine. Does anyone know what this -1309 error code might mean? I've tried google the meaning of it but no luck 😟

PS: The two ISO files are about 12GB in size and I still have around 40GB of capacity on my external hard drive.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Suky,

fileBoundsErr = -1309, /*file's EOF, offset, mark or size is too big*/

Is this external disk perhaps MS-Dos/Fat32 format? If so the file size limit is 4GB.

So is there any other option other than formatting the hard disk into NTFS?

If this drive is to be used only with a Mac, format the external to Mac Extended with Disk Utility (this will erase all the contents of the drive).

If you have to use a drive with a Mac, and a PC, and you have to have >4GB files there is no ideal solution. You can try formatting to Mac and using MacDrive on the PC to read the Mac drive. You can try [NTFS-3G|http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system diskutilities/ntfs3g.html] to work with NTFS drives on a Mac.

Alternatively, you can segment your large file using a tools such as Split&Concat.

Reformatting is likely the solution, NTFS if it needs to share with a PC, HFS+ if not.

But to get Write to NTFS to work you need...

NTFS-3G Stable Read/Write Driver...

http://www.ntfs-3g.org/

MacFUSE: Full Read-Write NTFS for Mac OS X, Among Others...

http://www.osnews.com/story/16930

MacDrive for the PCs... allows them to Read/Write HFS+...

But if there's a PC involved, can you not Fileshare & transfer them to the PC, (assuming it's NTFS)?
