Camera can't focus in the dark

Why the led flashlight can't be used to focus on dark photos?

The led light on the iPhone 4 is fine for taking photos in completely dark. The only problem is that 90% of the photos taken with almost 0 light are out of focus.

If only the led can be turned on when trying to focus I think that that 90% of my night photos will be better.

Hope Apple can do something here.

I don't want to adjust aperture, shutter speed and those things. I just want to focus on dark photos by lighting the led flash when focusing. I think it's far easier adding that feature than the great HDR photos that we have on our 'limited' cell phone camera..

it worked like you want on iphone 4 with ios 4, but now with ios 5 it doesn't focus anymore. tried with an iphone 4 and a 4s

The camera on my iPhone 4 running iOS5 has stopped focusing. It's not just in dark it won't focus at all. Has anyone heard of a solution? Thanks.

It's a cell phone camera with the limitations of cell phone cameras. If you want to take pictures in the dark, you'll need to get a decent quality digital camera where you can manually adjust your aperture, shutter speed, etc.

Why is still an issue today? Last night I found my iPhone 5 totally useless compared to some cheap 150€ android phones when it comes to taking pictures in the dark... As seen on most android devices, when shooting in 0 light area, there is "pre-flash" which helps to autofocus before actual flash+capture. Doesn't that make Apple look bad in terms of solving problems with their devices? I hope you fix this issue in iOS 9 (hopefully sooner).
