iLife '08 cannot install using OS 10.6.6

I am stripping older MacBooks to reinstall the OS and applications. I erase the hard drive and reinstall 10.6.4 from the Snow Leopard disk. Then I run all updates to get to 10.6.6. However, the iLife '08 cannot install from the disk. I get an error message saying that iLife '08 cannot be installed and to contact the manufacture.

I have about 30 of these laptops and this is the first time I could not load iLife 08. Could it be that there's a problem with 10.6.6 and iLife 08? If so, what's the solution? Don't say to upgrade to iLife 11, because the school does not have the funds pay for it. That's why I'm trying to bring these laptops as much up to date as I can.

The best solution is to install the operating system that shipped with the Macs, since that is the only Mac OS X version you can guarantee is also compatible with the iLife that shipped with them.
Forget about upgrading until you have the funds to guarantee compatibility with all applications you use.

And yes there is documented incompatibility between iLife '08 and Snow Leopard.
