Netgear WNR router drops the wifi connection

Has anyone else experienced problems with the Netgear WNR2000 router losing the wireless connection?
We have 3 Macs and 2 PCs on our network but recently have been having problems with losing the wireless connection. It works for a while after re-setting the router but it drops off again later. Also on my Imac I have to specify ethernet or Airport otherwise I can't go online. We are intending to buy a Time Capsule. Will this work as a router in place of the Netgear router?

The Time Capsule will work as a router instead of your other unit.

If you are losing the wireless connection on all of those machines I would definitely suspect the Netgear unit. Are you able to access an error log on the Netgear?

The TC is up and running and working fine although the signal strength is no better than the WNR2000.
At least we are all backed up though.

I am having the same problem with the Netgear WNR2000. It drops the signal from all my apple products: iPad, iPod, Apple TV. Funny thing is that it worked for about a month, and now has begun to drop constantly. I have to do a soft reset on my iPods and iPad, and completely unplug the Apple TV to get them to reconnect. Would the AirPort Extreme be a better choice?

I got my new Ipad2 and updated to the latest firmware version 4.3.2. I lose WIFI connection to my WNR2000 router every 10~20 minutes. It makes the IPad almost useless. If Apple couldn't fix this problem, I'm going to return this useless gadget.

I have multiple Windows PC's and an iPod Touch attached to the same router using WiFi and Ethernet connections. I never have any WiFi connection issues. Obviously, this is an iPad bug. Maybe I should wait longer till Apple fixes the bugs on its new products.

The other problem I have is that the iPad is never listed on Netgear router's Attached Device list. That's probably another Apple bug.

I went to a Apple store in Nashua, NH. An Apple tech support guy helped me to resolve the WiFi problem. The solution is to set the "Ask to Join Networks" to OFF. His explanation is the WiFi software may try to connect to other access point if that option is ON. This is an Apple's software bug and his workaround makes sense if you just connect to a single WiFi access point.

So far, my WiFi connection stays on for 2 hours, which is the new record for this iPad. Thank you, Apple, for resolving my WiFi issue.

I also figured out the Attached Device issue I mentioned above. It turns out it is a Netgear bug in it's router management software. If the attached devices do not have contiguous IP address, Netgear software stops displaying devices at the first discontinue address.

Thanks to FYE2.

Swithcing off "Ask to Join Netwroks" sorted out the problem with my netgear router dropping connection frequently because i had several smart phones accessing the router.
