G5 dual 2.7 kernel panic

I have my brother's power mac G5. He bought it used recently so I have no history. It will run fine for days if you don't tax it, but if you put something in the trash and secure empty the trash it freezes and the window pops up to push the power button to restart (a kernel panic). I ran the G5 disc and ran the hardware test, everything checks out OK. I ran an after market tool for the G5 and the hardware test is OK. I swapped out the memory same issue. I ran a memory test rember and it froze and needed to be restarted after about 3 minutes in. I have a second hard drive from another G5 same OS and the same things happen with it in. The log says something about CPU 0. Does that mean even though it passes the hardware test the processor is going bad?

Yes, they just sort of purr when it is at idle and cool and then when the temp goes up it sounds like a small jet engine running. The one disc of hardware tests, ran the fans and tested all that and it tested good. On the desktop widget you had me download, the rpms went up and it also track the coolant pumps. The CPU user usage was up to 80% to 100% while the trash was emptying, that seems odd to me.

Indeed, while I still suspect the thermal paste needs redoing, with the latest data, At this point I think you should get Applejack...

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack

After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...

applejack AUTO

Then let it do all 5 of it's things.

At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.

The 6 things it does are...

Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Trash old Log files.

First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! 🙂

Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

I ran applejack. It said it was OK except:

I Found an article that might help me if it is an overheating problem. A small leak causes some corrosion to form that blocks the heat transfer. http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/G5CoolantLeak_Repair/G5_CoolantLeak_Repairp1.html#storytop

Would that cause the processor to run at such a high user rate, too, or is one of the processors just on its way out?

By the way BDAqua thanks for all the time and effort.

Yes, & I've read a few where there was no apparent leak at all, but the coolant was either gone or gummed up.

Are you talking about CPU% in activity Monitor? If so, what process is using it?
