Using Your iPod with Sonic Impact i-Fusion Portable Speakers

I recently purchased the latest generation iPod 30GB Video along with Sonic Impact i-Fusion Portable Speakers. It says that the iPod is compatible. I am unable to get any sound from the speakers when I install the iPod into the 30 pin docking station of the i-Fusion speaker system. I am only able to get sound from the speakers by connecting a 3.5 mm stereo cable. This has frustrated me as I was attracted to the feature of just slipping the iPod into the docking system quickly and having the ability to charge my iPod while listening to music from the speakers. I am a bit confused by the directions manual as it states that the 3.5 mm stereo wire is to be used with an older iPod model without a 30 pin connector.
I assume that my new iPod has a 30 pin connector can you clarify this?
Note: When attempting to install the iPod into the i-Fusion dock, a message on the iPod screen reads "Fire Wire connections are not supported. To transfer songs connect the USB cable provided.
Sorry for the long winded message. Please Help!!
