Q: Approval and Archiving

We have our new system running fairly well for day to day tasks, and now the 2T Raid 1 I am using to hold the library is starting to get filled up and we have several large (lot's of raw footage) projects on the horizon. I have set up an external, Raid 1, Firewire 800 device to start archiving to, and designated it as an archive device in FCSvr. My question is what's the best way to move inactive projects off to the archive? I'm thinking that I would create a response to archive assets that are "approved", then schedule that to run once a day. Does that make sense? When a production is "approved" do all it's individual assets become "approved" as well our do I have to change that designation individually on each piece of material that is part of the production in order to get the footage off the active library drive?

Without any special custom scripting, you would need to mark each asset individually. You can use Search Expired responses to filter for assets based on a particular date field which can fire a Custom event on them that can be used to trigger a subscription with an Archive response.

Why not just mark them as Archived and let FCSvr do it's thing? Not sure what special process is really needed.

No, if you mark an FCP project file as Archived, or Approved, it will have no effect on any other asset.
