the above data "xattr -d com.apple.FinderInfo ~/Desktop" worked perfectly for me!! Thanks!
the terminal command
attr -d com.apple.FinderInfo ~/Desktop
also worked for me.
It created a desktop folder where mine had disappeared or changed into a package file instead.
