URGENT WIFI Question! Please HELP!

Hi

i have a iphone 4. an i'm wondering if i connnect to Wifi with Cellular Data OFF and/or Enable 3G OFF, will i still be able to use Wifi for safari and stuff normally? i want to use wifi WITHOUT it costing me on my data plan. WHAT do i NEED to do?? What do i turn OFF or leave ON in Settings-->General-->Network ?? please help as i am really clueless and don't want to be Billed! i have a Strong wifi - but i have a feeling it is using my data plan! What can i do? HELP IS much needed 🙂 please and thank you

If you turn cellular data off in settings, but leave WiFi on, the only data source your phone will use will be WiFi. Your phone will maintain this WiFi connection(if available), in sleep mode, as long as cellular data remains turned off.

Thank you 🙂 so to my understanding, if i leave 3G on but Cellular data off, i won't be billed, so when i use my wifi it'll be free correct?

It isn't necessary to disable 3G, just cellular data.

oh no.. just wait. i've tried what you've said i must do. i have Enable 3G on and Cellular Data turned off, and my Wifi is on. it shows strong bars, but when i go into Safari it doesn't work or load any site, Help please!

That's not the case with me or anyone I know. I'm posting this message from my iPhone with 3G on and cellular data off. In normal circumstances, if WiFi is available it will preempt 3G data anyway.

my settings are like this. my Enable 3G is on. My Cellular data if off. my Wifi is on, and the icon show up with all bars full. Now when i go onto Safari nothing happens - like i have no connection, Shouldn't it work though??

Mine works. Try it on a different Wifi if you can, that will let you know if its the phone or the Wifi.

It could be either. Try these steps as needed:

1. Reboot your router (unplug/plug power cable).
2. Restart phone.
3. Reset phone.
4. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

there are no other wifi connections around, how do i get more? i'm using my home wireless modem as my hotspot

my iphone picks up the wifi connection. i've reset its network settings, put the modem off and on. i went and enabled my "Enable 3G" and and put "Cellular Data" off. i went into safari and typed in google, the site opened up! BUT when i tried to search for something like "Glee" it wouldn't search. it would just keeping showing a rotating think next to my wifi bars. and it wont load any other site than just google's home page

Firstly, whether 3G and cellular data is on or off can't affect a WiFi connection. 3G voice doesn't interfere with WiFi.

What you're describing could be a browser issue. Try:

Settings > Safari > Clear Cache, Clear Cookies
