MacBook Pro can't detect printer

I'm running 10.6.6 and I'm trying to use my Samsung CLP 300 printer. I've installed the necessary drivers soo many times but when I go to add the printer under system preferences, my MBP won't detect it! It's a simple USB connection and my MBP still can't detect it. I really want to keep this printer because its a laser color printer I got for free and the only alternative is an inkjet (which wastes a lot of ink) Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Hi, I'm having the same problem with a different printer. New cord. Reinstallation of drivers after deletion and emptying of the trash. Tried restarting both machines. Tested both of my usb ports with recognition of my iphone.

It was working 2 days ago and gave up yesterday after a computer restart. It detected my wireless printer with an easy install after I cleared all of the printers... but still not the one plugged into the usb port.

The printer I'm attempting to add is a Primera Bravo SE and I've used it for about 18 months on this same computer.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

This may be a stupid suggestion, but sometimes we just forget to do it:

did you try another USB port? Sometimes chaging the port makes the computer see it.

Or, turn you computer off and on again and off again with the printer DISCONECTED and then turn it back on and connect it.

USB detection has its moods sometimes...

Have you tried looking in System Profiler with the printer connected and powered on? That will tell you if the USB bus is seeing it at all.

If it does show up in System Profiler, what does it think it is?

Other obvious question is have you tried a different USB cable?

Just a quick follow up:
I just plugged it into my Mac desktop computer, and it was found easily. I just plugged it in and added it. Still no luck with the MacBook Pro.

Yet another follow up:
I decided to check (again) for an Apple update... Magically, a printer update was there! It works without any problems now.

I am having the same problem with my MBP. I have tried all the suggestions and my printer works fine on my wife's Windows laptop but when we use the same cable to connect to mine, I cannot add it to my printer list. I have checked for software updates but there are none outstanding. When I look at the system report, it doesn't show up at all and I have verified that all my USB ports are fully functional. I have tried restarting my laptop both with the printer plugged in and unplugged, also both turned on and turned off and it doesn't seem to make a difference in any way.

Any suggestions?
