Itunes freezes when importing CDs

My Itunes keeps freezing up when I am importing CDs in Itunes. I keep getting the following error message - "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

After going through some of the postings online, it appears this is a common problem but I have yet to find a solution that has worked. So far, I have tried: 1)uninstalling Itunes and reinstalling, 2)removing quicktime and then repairing Itunes, 3) checking the "use error correction when reading Audio CDs" box in the preferences menu. Nothing seems to be working.

Can someone please help? I am operating on Windows XP and am using a brand new Sony Vaio desktop.
