ok guys... it has been a VERY long time, and even more time WASTED trying to get this problem resolved. I have come up with a solution that DOES work. Occasionally I still get the errors, but almost 95% of the time this works, at least for me. Maybe you guys can TRY it to see if it works for you. I would be VERY interested to see if this works more than once or a few times for you.
Yes I agree it appears a lot of the issues appear to have to deal with the Intel HM55 Chipset (Intel 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset). But regardless, I still think that DELL and APPLE FAIL at trying to help in any such way. I haven't yet tried to contact Intel, but I get the feeling it really wouldn't be much different than contacting DELL or APPLE.
Here is what I did. VERY SIMPLE. Actually almost TOO simple it's scary for me.
On the main page of your device settings it tells you your phone/UDID/Serial Number.
At the bottom of that page is a checkbox that says "CONVERT HIGHER BIT RATE SONGS TO 128 kbps AAC".
Uncheck that box, and Uncheck the box for Encrypt iDevice (iPhone/iPod/iPad) Backup. then click apply.
IF your device fails and all the errors come back....
CANCEL SYNC on iPhone/iPod/iPad.
Disconnect USB cable.
CLOSE iTunes.
Reboot iDevice (example: iPhone/iPod/iPad)
When iDevice reboots, unlock it.
Start iTunes.
Plug in iDevice and WAIT.
On the device in question, usually it will "sync" temporarily for 30 seconds (to determine updates available, etc)
WAIT for device to finish that SYNC.
Ensure that both checkboxes for Encrypt and Convert Higher Bit Rate songs are BOTH unchecked.
Ensure device is NOT syncíng anymore.
Now switch between tabs for music, movies, books, photos, apps, and set what you want sync'd.
First time may take a little bit depending on speed of your pc.
When its done, I check sync and all my feature options again to ensure it copied my music/photos/apps/etc. Then I resync one more time.
This almost ALWAYS works for me.
Backups still appear to fail (although it doesnt tell you that... you experience it by having to restore to a backup).
Occasionally when backing up, I still get all the massive errors, I just cancel on iDevice, unplug USB, power cycle iDevice, close iTunes, and restart.
Usually when you restart iTunes, you might get a msg to restore from backup and create as NEW DEVICE.
I usually create as new device.
During the first stage of this, usually iTunes will contact Apple to "verify" your device.
In 19/20 tries this ALWAYS starts the device exactly as the last backup.
It will usually backup, and ONLY change anything you changed in your calendar/music/movies.
Once completed this will sync again and again.
For the odd time it does not sync, you follow these steps (might take 20 mins) and you are back to normal.
Since going through all this, I have not yet LOST any data/pictures/music yet on my phone.
This is frustrating, but believe me, I would still rather do all this than sync to my old laptop at 10+ hours for a sync to add all the music again.
Please if this does not work, or you need any clarifications, please let me know. Sometimes I don't get these updates to my email. If I haven't replied in a day or two at the very longest, you should see my email address if you click on my username corey-edm. Please send me an email.
Thanks everyone.
