When I couldn't find a Carbonite folder in Applications (I had previously trashed it) I Googled how to get rid
of Carbonite icon and found a way to find the hidden Carbonite folder.
I had to: 1/ Control click on Finder on the dock and select ‘Go to Folder’.
2/ Typed /Library/Application Support/ into the window that appears.
3/ There was the Carbonite folder with 4 documents in it.
I moved the whole folder into AppZapper free demo application, and BOOM icon's gone. I had to restart to see the icon was actually gone. AppZapper is pretty cool too.
No. This does not work.
Thanks Barney, that finally got rid of it. If ever you are in Bristol, UK, call on me and I'll buy you a beer. I'm very happy not to have Carbonite appear when I'm typing, as it didn't tell me it was happening and I found that it had stopped recoding what I was typing because of that effing program!
Thanks Barney, Carbonite has been driving me crazy for months with its wretched pop up message and persistent and unwelcome icon with an x through it. I followed your instructions, found a couple of pesky little files with carbonite in the name, sent to trash, restarted and hurrah - the icon is gone! Thank you again. Richard.
If I get back to the UK, I'm not sure I'll be near Bristol, but thanks for the offer.
Beautiful! Many thanks. The only good that came from my brief free trial of Carbonite was learning some new stuff. Boy, it was hard to get rid of.

Thanks vegasboss! I couldn't empty my trash- it said the app was still running but appzapper did the trick.
Thanks 🙂
