VPN does not accept Wi-Fi connection

I face the following problem when trying to establish a VPN connection over WiFi.
We have a WiFi network here that only provides internet access via VPN tunnels. Without VPN/authentication, no external traffice is allowed.

My iPad connects to the WiFi and correctly receives an IP address, but since there is no internet access, the WiFi symbol does not appear in the status bar. As a consequence, the iOS VPN client seems to assume that there is no connection at all and refuses to connect to the VPN server - which is actually perfectly reachable, as tested with my MacBook.

Any ideas how to solve this?

What setting are you using for HTTP proxy? Try changing it.

You could also try manually specifying the TCP connection parameters by copying the values from the MacBook.

There is no proxy involved.

The IP settings are correct, the same range, broadcast and gateway as on the macbook where they work flawlessly.

I just would like to figure how to force the VPN client to actually USE/ACCEPT the available connection :-/

I meet similar one: in-office wifi allows access to internal resources, for Internet I must establist VPN connection to gateway. VPN is up, IP addresses are Ok and routing looks fine but nothing works. Have an idea where to dig?
