Print & Fax preference pane hangs

Try this: Quit System Preferences (if open) and go to Users -> Library -> Preferences and delete com.apple.systempreferences.plist.

Restart computer and see if it works now; if not, we'll go to the next troubleshooting step.

Ok, next try this:

Quit System Preferences. Go to Users -> Library -> Caches and move the following two files to the desktop (or trash, but don't empty yet):

com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache

Restart.

See if that works; if not, you can either move those two back (and throw out the newly created ones) or delete them permanently if it worked.

Did you have any printers added? If so, can you use the CUPS admin page (http://127.0.0.1:631/) to delete it/them?

Reinstall the system.

Since this is only happening on one user account, it is probably something in that Library. Try removing the entire Preferences file out of the Library, log out and back in, and see if that fixes it. If it does, you can replace items group by group until you isolate the problem.
