small dot near the network

I changed the battery for my iphone 2g and after i run it everything its working fine except one small dot near the network.i thought that my wifi is on and cannot connect but my wifi was turned off.can somebody explain to me why i have this dot there?thanks a lot

asus laptop, Windows 7

do you mean the dot indicates GPRS? Same position of wifi icon, it's a white or blue dot

The original iPhone will only connect to the cellular data network using Edge or GPRS. In order of speed, GPRS is the slowest. That symbol means you are connected to the cellular data network using GPRS.

And how i can turn off the cellular data coz i was looking at tha settings and i didnt find out

On the original iPhone, the only way to completely turn off the cellular data connection is to put the phone in Airplane mode. However, doing so turns off all iPhone radios. iOS 4.0 introduced the ability to turn cellular data off in settings, however iOS 4.0 and higher are not compatible with the original iPhone. iOS 3.1.3 is the end of the line for that model. Thus, there is no setting to turn cellular data off on your phone.

I don't know what else to tell you, your phone appears to be working as it should. You have to remember, by design, the iPhone is meant to always have a data connection. For your model phone, that would be WiFi(if available)>Edge>GPRS, in that order of priority.
