Q: Custom Signature

I've regularly seen "custom" signatures by some of the regulars - handwriting, bouncing smileys, moving tiger, etc - and decided I'd like to have one. So, I designed one yesterday and, as a test, added it to a post. When I checked about 20 minutes later, it had disappeared; instead, it is showing a large grey lock:

So, is it permitted to have a signature or not? Mine was my name in a fancy multi-colored font with shadow. Or is there a minimum age/points/whatever required?

I actually agree - I just added the "." because everyone was commenting about "B" and "Bee".....

And I just checked - there is no blue umbrella only purple or orange.... will see about a darker orange tomorrow (need to get to the theatre - I'm on the schedule as a volunteer).

    +Lame Platinum Blond Ralph (US)+

If that is your new sig, we'll need to shorten that (acronym??); but, frankly, I wouldn't mention platinum blond - doesn't sound very attractive, but does go well with lame... why not just cop to gray or silver; if I can do it, so can you!

One of my mentees made a comment about my iPad and new Verizon iPhone, so I have a new sig line:

iCult Ralph (US), formerly known as Lame Platinum Blond Ralph (US)

hmmm - iCR has a certain ring to it, I could do something with that (although you'd have to be careful not to be confused with R C-R)

Edit: done in less than 5 minutes:

the 'i' is the flag holder - no need for (US) because of the flag....

    Hi Barbara,

I was turning this whole topic into somewhat of a learning lesson for me also. I used to be able to save and export my little doodles in Photoshop as saved transparent background images. I hadn't played around with them for so long that I had forgotten how I had managed to make them and thought your button design dilemma would be a good excuse to figure it out again:

Ah, success, rather lame design but at least it has the transparency. At least I don't have to download any other software to do it. I can create my own buttons if I want so I'm going off to see what I can come up with now. I have a feeling the poor users of AD will be inundated with my button designs for awhile

Of course it is . Not too bad for a quick try I think. Might try a different font and/or colors if you're serious.

That's pretty cool (although yellow isn't my favorite color) - so you did that in Photoshop? Which version would that be? I only have the Photoshop Elements and although I haven't used it extensively - I prefer the other apps I have - I've not seen that capability there (buttons).

    Hi Barbara,

It is a custom made button. It is very simple using Photoshop if you are familiar with PS at all. Elements has more than enough features to create good button designs etc. If you know how to work with layers in PS and text features and rendering effects it is pretty simple. It is how I rounded the corners in your original blue and white rectangular signature that I posted back above.

What's nice about using PS to create your own you are able to customize everything just how you want it and not settle for everything "except" for this or that. It's probably the best way if you truly wish to be "creative"

I've always enjoyed playing around in PS designing logos and small graphics for ecards to send to friends and sometimes for posting on the AD. I don't do it to show off any skills (as I certainly don't have much), I just enjoy doing them.

If you have any extra time try playing around in PS to create one. If you need any help just post back I'll be glad to help with as much as I know about using PS. Photoshop can become very addictive. It's a very powerful graphic design app as well as a photo editing tool!

    LS and Ralph (UK),

thanks for that - will play with that (Photoshop) as soon as I have time (won't be home tonight and have things scheduled for most of the next two days - occasionally, one has to actually do things besides play

I wonder, should I mark this back to "unanswered" for the time being? Since I marked it answered, how long will it remain open for business so to speak?

    Barbara,

I don't think it matters if you mark it unanswered unless you're looking for more help or critiques

    Hi Ralph,

Oh, maybe I should post a disclaimer that I don't receive any compensation from the avatar

I think I need to reduce it in size a little more. I was going to put Barbara's "B" on a gold star on the chest of the green star body but you really couldn't read it that reduced. I thought Barbara might want to use it but I think she's going for a little more "elegant" or "refined" design of a signature!

edit: Ya, definitely need to reduce the size a tad! I think it needs a more smilie type face...he looks a little like an alien smilie

This one isn't as odd as the alien one and probably wouldn't cause quite the stir the other would but I think it's still too big...back to the drawing board.
