Q: Custom Signature

I've regularly seen "custom" signatures by some of the regulars - handwriting, bouncing smileys, moving tiger, etc - and decided I'd like to have one. So, I designed one yesterday and, as a test, added it to a post. When I checked about 20 minutes later, it had disappeared; instead, it is showing a large grey lock:

So, is it permitted to have a signature or not? Mine was my name in a fancy multi-colored font with shadow. Or is there a minimum age/points/whatever required?

+Sister in StL loves the new sig line+

You're serious??? You actually mean the one I made up???

We'll need to talk if you want that - one problem is that you can't just copy and paste it - at least to use here. And it'll need to be a bit smaller and a small color adjustment (I think the red has too much pink in it). And you really want the "iCR"????

That'a a cute little fella! But, I actually like the first one except I think he wouldn't look odd if he had both eyes open. But I agree, needs to be a bit smaller. That's what makes it difficult because you lose so much detail when decreasing the size.

Trying a new one with a '.' behind the B - not sure I like it.

Ralph ~ Instead of copy & paste, you could create a "_text clipping_" on the Desktop which can then simply be dragged into the Compose window...

Select (highlight) your sig line text:

iCult Ralph (US), formerly known as Lame Platinum Blond Ralph (US)

...and drag it to the Desktop. Optionally change the name of the Clipping icon. Once that's done, whenever you want to post that sig line, simply drag the Clipping icon to the Compose window. The Clipping icon will remain on the Desktop for future use. Before posting, switch to Preview mode to make sure it looks okay.

    ali,

+But it can be saved to the Desktop and then uploaded to an Image Hosting service.+

That is if that service can handle transparencies (.png) - correct? Otherwise he might wind up with a white border around it? If he was actually serious (at this point I'm not sure about that), I thought the best way would be for me to "fix" it whichever way he wants and then email it to him as an attachment. Then he can upload it.

    Alancito,

I learned something new - didn't realize you could just save a text clipping in a browser and insert it elsewhere. Thanks!

    Hi Barbara,

All the ones I have been posting here I posted to PhotoBucket as a .png file. They work fine as far as I can tell:

I like the size now and am pretty happy with the design but I think that the eyes just need to be a tad smaller. Heh folks, give me a break....I'm doing this on an iMac G3 350 in an ancient version of Photoshop When I get a 30 inch monitor then you can critique it

I agree about the eyes - but this is really cool! That would be perfect as a last post when you're handing out stars!

Not hugely impressed with your Gingerbread Man in a green suit!

How's this one Barbara? I think it's not too weird with the small smilie type eyes now. Not sure if I like it with the green starman on the "platter" or along side the "platter" of gold stars?

    littleshoulders

edit: Might be fun to make an animated gif out of it. Perhaps the starman could be catching the gold star or tossing the gold star in the air and falling onto the "platter"! Hmmm, just takes time and energy. I think I need to take a break for a few and get back at it later

Klaus, does he not look enough like the green star? Gingerbread? Hadn't thought of that but now I'm getting hungry! Why is it that every time you post in the Feedback forum we start talking about food

I do like the smaller eyes on the smilie head now, though. What don't you like about my Starman? Is it too amateur looking or look too much like a cookie

Yep, a Gingerbread Man is a 'cookie'!

Not generally keen on bandwidth-reducing ego-tripical (new word) signatures, least of all those that move.

Custom avatars are a different matter - I like those and hope they will be available in the new forums.

    Hi,

As I have said elsewhere on this I use TextExpander (version 2.8.1) There is a later version (Intel Only) which costs a bit more than I am willing to pay with features I don't use)

This can store "Snippets" which are in fact what you would enter anyway but then you add shorter "code" that you would type to invoke the Snippet from TextExpander

It has some presets for Date and Time.

My Signature post snippet is the URL for the Sig Pic, a new line and then the date and time items, then the HTML and text to post the added iChat Log bit ( I sometimes forget to remove) in green (and Apple Chancery).

I then have a four letter set of characters that makes it add to anything.

(If you were doing it in Word or Pages or in fact anything on your Mac then the actual pic can be put in Text Edit.)
