Q: Custom Signature

I've regularly seen "custom" signatures by some of the regulars - handwriting, bouncing smileys, moving tiger, etc - and decided I'd like to have one. So, I designed one yesterday and, as a test, added it to a post. When I checked about 20 minutes later, it had disappeared; instead, it is showing a large grey lock:

So, is it permitted to have a signature or not? Mine was my name in a fancy multi-colored font with shadow. Or is there a minimum age/points/whatever required?

Miriam, now would be a good time to upgrade your black and white monitor!

Ha Ha Klaus! I just closed Safari and reopened it, then my password was refused and I had to create a new one, the same thing happened when I synced my iPhone earlier today, my password (perfectly valid) was refused as well. And even after the restart and cleaning of Safari caches, I still only see white. I guess it's time to reboot the whole thing.

    Ta Ta, see you later,

I knew I never should have upgraded to 10.6.6 - did it yesterday....

ok, I rebooted and still don't see the blue. Explanation anyone? I do see all the other blues in the window as well as the proper colors for the avatars. So what's the matter with Safari? It's 5.0.3 and I'm just about fed up with it!

In tree view the lines where you select the individual posts alternate blue and white in the other two views flat and threaded the posts alternate blue and white. I use Safari.

Thanks Ralph (UK); I'm trying it now in Firefox (created a couple new ones with transparent backgrounds), so this is a test...

I'll post a second one with Safari.

    Hi Miriam,

I'm doing this in Safari and it's the same version you downloaded. Testing a signature here:

By the way, since you just updated to 10.6.6 - be aware of the new background process called Storeagent which will automatically launch if you open the Mac App Store. It will then scan your hard drive for applications so it can offer you updates, etc. I have chosen not to open the App Store.

It isn't just to check for updates, it is also to try to keep you from buying software you already have but if you've been reading that forum it is having problems doing it correctly.

I think we discussed this before but Software Update also scans your drive upon launch, have you also sent feedback to allow you to remove software update?

I think your warning is grossly overstated.

+Software Update also scans your drive upon launch+

You mean that even though I would only run it manually and both "check for updates" and "download updates automatically" are not selected, it still runs on boot up? Or do you mean only upon launching the application? If that's what you meant, of course, I realize that - it is my choice to run it or not so there is no need to remove it. I have never said that I wanted to remove anything; I'd simply like an option to enable/disable Storeagent.

+I think your warning is grossly overstated.+

Well, since this has been discussed previously, I'd like to propose (and hope) that we simply agree to disagree and leave it at that - I do believe I simply stated facts. If I didn't, I will take responsibility for making a mistake.

I've rebooted, emptied caches, and none of my browsers on my i5 will show the blue, although LS's screen shot does show up as blue. I can't imagine what would cause this, trashing prefs wouldn't make any difference, since it's the same on all three browsers.

    Any ideas????

Are you by chance wearing Blue Blocker sunglasses?

Seriously Miriam, I just posted that jpeg background as a joke. I don't see any blue and white using my browsers either. I have a sneaking suspicion that Klaus, Barbara and Ralph are having some fun with you but I'm not sure (?). Have you seen the old movie Gaslight? I wouldn't doubt anything with those three musketeers

I hope they are having fun, but in fact, I do see the blue and white on my MBP, but not on my i5. If you can't see the blue either, then there's something funny going on.

Back off-topic: Deggie, I'm not certain that's true. I have Little Snitch set to block Software Update, which I only run manually, from connecting. The only time I'm asked by LS whether to allow SU or not is when I choose to run it. LS is up and running quite early after bootup, before login.

I used to see the alternating blue and white but haven't for quite sometime. Even back when I did it would change to all white for awhile and then return. Never understood why and it didn't matter that much to me but it was odd. Can't remember how long it's been since I saw it but it's been awhile
