Q: Custom Signature

I've regularly seen "custom" signatures by some of the regulars - handwriting, bouncing smileys, moving tiger, etc - and decided I'd like to have one. So, I designed one yesterday and, as a test, added it to a post. When I checked about 20 minutes later, it had disappeared; instead, it is showing a large grey lock:

So, is it permitted to have a signature or not? Mine was my name in a fancy multi-colored font with shadow. Or is there a minimum age/points/whatever required?

Ok, we'll try that again (I did not delete that one in Skitch) - I copied it and made it a big smaller in Graphic Converter:

And here is the original one which just disappeared:

    Re: sig5

The font looks better in this size, but it may be a bit too large?

This one is too big, and the previous one blurs your name, it's very pretty, but back to the drawing board for you

I think mine is just about the right size

I am presuming Art Text gives you a working window that does not have the Watermark ?

So like this pic you can grab any portion with Skitch
    Apple Post Message: Reply

I am using the Snap Button top right of Skitch
    This gives cross hairs.
I can then draw around the area I want (holding still and a single click on any part of any window will "grab" the window) in this case I was in Firefox.
(The Capture Menu has more options)

If Art Text actually works in .png or .gif with the transparency already why not Copy the pic to the Clipboard and then Paste into Skitch ?

On the other hand if the view always captures a white background I might import in to Photoshop Elements and use the magic Selection tool to help me remove the surrounding white then Save AS and choose .png or .gif (you may have to select Transparency in that screen)

    Hi Barbara,

I really like the button concept for your signature. Perhaps trying halfway between the two sizes you posted and see how it looks. Or maybe play around with the font if you want it smaller and see if it is smoother.

    good luck,

    Hi,

As you say first one is blurry and this one I am replying to, just a tad too big

I used HTML to resize it as it is a .png and will do that better than other formats

    ( img src="/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/130/13045073-1.png" width=125 )

I used the Larger pic and used the width command to make it just that bit smaller

Glad you like it. I hope Barbara does.

Up to your old tricks again Ralph! - it was you who tutored me through making my own signature, you were incredibly patient and put up with my infinite lack of knowledge till we arrived at something halfway decent.

    Thank you again,

I think the largest one posted does get the Font/text at the "correct" colour difference between the blue button and the text.

The slightly smaller ones tend make the text look a bit grey.

I would be tempted to Bold the text or go for a light coloured Button and Dark text. (Or even shadow or highlight it)

As Logo/iCon it would stand out enough on the boards even if the text is not as readable as it should could be.
(I think it it Toooo blue and loses the Font/text)

+I am presuming Art Text gives you a working window that does not have the Watermark ?+

Unfortunately, it does not - working window is whatever size I've specified with the entire window showing the light gray "trial" (sized to cover the entire window)...

I used HTML to resize it as it is a .png and will do that better than other formats

    ( img src="https://img.skitch.com/20110206-xjf6ee1ta2mpcp9b5358chux2d.png" width=125 )

Did you just change the numbers or ?? I just compared the two - mine doesn't show the "width=125", but references my image - so what/how do I do to resize it your way??? (I'll take that size!!)

That font (Zapfino) does not contain bold option and dang it, I like it - that's why I keep trying. But I am getting a little tired of it; I mean, sheesh, how hard can it be.

I've also noticed that if I create it in a larger size, it may look perfect, but as soon as it's shrunk, it's no longer acceptable.

I'm busy this morning and then there is the Super Bowl this afternoon, so I won't get back to trying it a different way until this evening probably.

Maybe in the meantime, you'd be kind enough to share how to resize in HTML so I'll know how to do that once I get that far.

    Hi,

I use my sig pic here and on my web site.
Where it used on the web site it is bigger so I use the HTML Width thing here.

If you are just storing it specifically for here then change it in a Graphics App to the new size.

I used your URL and added the width=125 to make the Browser display it smaller.

Well, that's what I did previously (Graphic Converter), but I shall try again.......

And, so you just added that to the end? Will try this right now:

    Re: sig5

Edit: How is that?? Will maybe play with different colors later.. the button colors can't be changed, but there are different options.

Tried a couple of other colors:

    sig7

    sig10

    Comments anyone?

Personally, I still like the darker button with the white font, but the font is a little jagged after shrinking it.

Forgot to try this in a smaller size:

    Bsig2
