Q: White Itunes Store Page

When I open the iTunes Store, it will begin to open properly. Then, it begins to slow down, and right before it is entirely loaded the entire store will turn white! It doesn't say "unable to connect" or anything of that nature. it's just a white screen. This has never happened before, I don't know what to do. A resolution to this problem is of course greatly appreciated.

Well, it's nice to know I'm not the only one having this problem! It's all part of this planned obsolescence crap that iTunes - along with Windows - foists on its users. I know the simplest solution would be to download version 10.2; however,I have an older computer, and it even slowed to a crawl when I downloaded version 8! And after hearing the horror stories from other people who have downloaded Version 10, I'm not so sure I want to!

Please, iTunes, make your store backwards-compatible again or you are going to lose a lot of users -- including me!

I have had this white screen problem too, and after contacting apple customer support they emailed me suggesting I should update, but as with others on this forum my update stalled at 80%. Apples next solution was to uninstall iTunes and Quicktime and install the latest versions. I followed their advice and now cannot install iTunes or Quicktime, as both downloads stop with only a percentage of the install.exe file saved to a temporary file when selecting run from the dialogue box,(same when selecting save). I have full admin rights on my system and all other requirements/updates are exceeded. My internet connection is through a mobile dongle, but that should not be an issue as it has not prevented me from other regular updates for windows or any drivers

Its happening me to me right now too when i try to access the iTunes store. It loads, and then I see the page for about 2 seconds, and then the screen goes blank white! I'm trying to rent a movie, but the movie page only shows for 2 seconds before it goes blank. Grrrr. How frustrating. It's Feb 13th 2011. Anyone else having this problem now? When will they fix it?

I had the same problem with my itunes!
It happened suddenly for no reason and it was very frustrating trying to get it to work, especially as it loaded most of the way and then went white! :@
So, I tried many things to fix it but nothing worked.
    My Solution!
I uninstalled my version of intunes completely.
Then, instead of re-installing itunes, I went onto the apple website and clicked on the iTunes menu at the top, then clicked on the Download iTunes button.
I opened the set up, downloaded itunes, restarted when it said to blah blah blah, (Follow the instructions it gives you.)
My problem was then fixed! the iTunes store now works perfectly!! (Hopefully it will last... )
I have read somewhere that this problem may happen if you don't have the latest version of iTunes, the new one which I downloaded and which works great is the iTunes 10.1.2
    Heres a link : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Make sure you uninstall the other iTunes you have first and then download this new one! Good luck and I hope it works for you.

This is the answer I got from Itunes. I followed the dierctions and iTunes store is now working. Good Luck.

I recommend that you attempt to resolve this issue by uninstalling iTunes and QuickTime, and then reinstalling the latest version of each. To do this, first ensure that you are logged in to an Administrator user account on your computer, then follow the instructions in the appropriate article:

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925

Note: Titles you purchased from the iTunes Store or imported from CDs are saved in your iTunes folder by default and are not deleted by uninstalling iTunes. Backing up your iTunes Library regularly is recommended.

After successfully uninstalling iTunes and QuickTime, please ensure you have upgraded to the latest Service Pack for Windows by installing all updates available to you on Microsoft Windows Update:

    http://update.microsoft.com

Once you have the latest Service Pack for Windows installed, download and install iTunes for Windows (which includes QuickTime):

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download

If you continue to experience difficulty with this issue, you may wish to contact Apple technical support. A representative will be able to tell you about Apple's complimentary and fee-based support options and can help you determine which option might be most helpful.

If you would like to create a technical-support case via our website and arrange for a representative to call you, please visit the Apple Expert website:

    http://www.apple.com/support/expert

If you prefer to contact Apple technical support by telephone, you can find the appropriate phone number here:

Thank you for your understanding and patience. Have a great day!

Thanks for your helpful suggestions, but it's still a pain to have to go through all that just to get the iTunes store working on your computer again!

This post can be greatly simplified by saying: Apple just doesn't want your business.

What marketing genius at Apple thought it would be a good idea to lock out Ver-9 users from buying anything at their online store?!

To their credit, they did respond via email today, suggesting I upgrade to Ver-10 (even though I mentioned that was not an option). They even offered technical assistance to restore any purhcases I might have made. Yeah, like I'm worried about the 30 or so songs I got from the Store and am willing to risk the 1,000's that I imported off CD's. Is Apple going to reimburse my time when the upgrade trashes the library (as so many here have reported)? No thanks.!!

Not to mention, why on earth would I trust Apple's "technical assistance" with my computer when they can't even get their own software to work right?

I suggest we all dig in our heels, take our purchases elsewhere, until Apple re-enables Ver-9 compatibility. I don't feel compelled to give Apple my money for a sub-standard product.

I'm done with Apple, itunes, and ipod.

Can anyone recommend an alternative source for music? I will invest my time and money finding a new place for music and buying a new player.

If not, I will simply rely on downloading Youtube videos--most of what I listen to is there--and converting them to mpg3 format, afterwhich I can upload them to any device.

I don't blame Apple, per se, I blame our system that turns them into an ugly and ruthless money making machine. They have no doubt calculated that it is worth their while, in terms of bottom line profits, to do what they have done. I suspect that my departure as a customer has already been accounted for in their books, but somehow is well more than made up for by the $$ they are making on people doing the updating and converting required to restore and retain their access to the itunes store.

Goodbye Apple. Best of luck to you.

I tried updating just Quick Time, when the iTunes updater said that iTunes updates were available, so I am now running iTunes 9.1.1.12 with Quick Time 7.6.9. I thought that since Quick Time was a media player it might be responsible for rendering the iTunes store page. But that did not fix it, so I still have a blank store page.

I'm holding off upgrading to 10.1.2 because of reports here that it doesn't play audio files correctly (distortion), some reports of library corruption, being on a five year old PC which is already showing delays between page changes in iTunes etc.

Sorry this isn't a fix, I would have thought Apple would have fixed it by now, but wanted to let people know that updating Quick Time alone is not worthwhile.

Thanks for the heads-up. My computer is closer to 9 years old and has "hung" on other updates I've tried installing on it. I'm going to hold off downloading iTunes 10 until I find out what - if anything - iTunes will do to remedy this problem. Maybe if more people hold off upgrading to iTunes 10, maybe iTunes will FINALLY get the message....

Apple has apparently made a change to the iTunes Store communications protocol in their latest iTunes upgrade that is not backward compatible, probably inadvertantly. Hence all the advise about upgrading to the latest version. I guess I'll follow those instructions.
