Safari Pinch/Zoom in iPhone4

Safari Pinch/Zoom in iPhone4

Hello,

All of a sudden, I cannot pinch and zoom in Safari on my iPhone4. I could before in Safai, and I still can in other apps like iPhoto. I have tried restarting the phone, but to no avail. Does anyone have ideas/suggestions?

Hi there..

Have you tried re-setting the iPhone?

Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button on the top and the Home button _*at the same time*_ for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

This usually irons out any wee issues.

You won't lose any date or settings...just incase you were worried.

Try and report back.

Hi Ricky,

Thanks for the suggestion. I should have mentioned in my original post that I did both a power cycle and also the reset cycle as you suggest. Neither resolves the problem.

Other thoughts?

Ok, I have an update (clarification). I was looking at a mobile site when I ran into the problem described above - and it seems to affect only mobile sites like m.yahoo.com. Regular internet sites can be pinches/zoomed etc.

I don't regularly visit mobile sites, so I don't know if this is "normal" behavior. Seems like this is something new ... a "feature" from iOS 4.2? In any case, it seems wrong to me that pinch/zoom does nto work on a mobile site. And BTW, pinch/zoom works fine on my work-issues Android phone.

Thanks in advance if anyone can shed light on this.

That's normal behavior for mobile sites on Apple mobile devices.

Presumably, the idea is that the screens on these sites are designed to properly fit the small screen so, of course, pinching is not necessary and zooming should not be necessary.

Thanks for your comment. Apple's position does not make sense to me. I can pinch/zoom on these sites on my Android phone, so maybe Apple will respond to the competitive situation ...
