XVID file format will not play with sound

Hi there,
I have some XVID file formats that I cannot get to play with sound and some that will not play at all.
Do I need to convert these files?
The ones that will not play say XVID MAXSPEED predominantly in the file name.

Your files are probably illegal conversions of copyrighted material and we can't discuss it in these Discussions.

Not illegal conversions - actually legally distributed independent films.
