Mail adds unwanted line breaks in signature

This is a question on behalf of my wife who's running 10.6.5 in a MacBook Pro.

She has a signature set up in mail that includes a few lines of text and a couple of graphics, one JPG and one PNG.

She set up the signature in the "Signatures" tab of the Mail prefs without line breaks, then when she adds the signature to the bottom of a mail it adds in unwanted line breaks around the images.

When she then goes back to the preferences the phantom line breaks have appeared in there too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sadly, this is still an issue in 10.11.1 😟 😟

This took some experimenting, but I was able to add images to my signature without extra line breaks (and without HTML):

  1. Write sig, without any images and without any extra line breaks (obviously).
  2. Drag image from finder to the end of the line which you want the image to appear beneath. Ensure this is the last thing you do...
  3. Profit!

Let me know if this works for you.
