DVD's won't play - get Initiazation Error 10960

Hello,

My iMac will not play DVD's. After I insert a DVD, I can hear it "gurgling" for a about 15 seconds and then I get an error message that says "Initialization Error 10960." My Disk Utility says no repairs are needed and I have repaired permissions but still have the problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much,
Bob

Hi,

I have the very same Problem!
My MacBook wont play original DVD Movies; when I insert the disc it'll load and show the audio_ts and video_ts folders butI cant play the movie.

I first had the standard dvdplayer app installed which would try to load the movie on insert automaticaly but crashed all the time wit "initialization error 10960".
Then I deleted the dvdplayer app and tried to download and reinstall it again from apple...no success.

Also VLC Player cant play any DVD Movies (I have tried several discs with no success 😟

I think it's a region code issue because when I run Region X app it says that I have not yet set any region for the drive and still am able to change region 5 times.
But I have no clue how to set the region - usually when u insert a dvd movie for the very first time in your drive it'll pop up automaticaly for region code settings but not in this case...

can anybody help please???

Same deal. However, I can't even get the OEM disc to mount at all-- it just gets ejected.

I tried multiple pre-recorded (i.e., "bought as new, in-store or online, from OEM") DVDs, including Star Trek: TNG from any season, several movies from different companies/production years/studios. All are cycled for about 10-30 seconds and then ejected. All discs are pristine, and I carefully checked them with an air duster before inserting them in the slot. Ok, this is starting to sound pornographic. Queue the cheesy music...

Note that music CDs are accepted and read by the same machine/setup.

I have to say, I'm really noticing a serious downturn in customer service response and overall product quality ever since Steve is gone, not that I strongly believe that to be the reason. It's just hard to ignore the correlation even if it doesn't mean causation.
