New LaCie d2 Quadra and New MBP - Prompts to install Rosetta??

New MBP running Snow Leopard (2 weeks old) + new LaCie d2 Quadra 1 TB (2 days old). Just ran into a curious issue. I need some guru help. Plugged everything in and intended to do my first Time Machine backup. The LaCie set-up assistant causes this message to appear: "To open LaCie Setup Assistant, you need to install Rosetta. Would you like to install it now?" NoUser uploaded file I don't want to install Rosetta. Does this mean I need to format the LaCie external drive? I never had to do this on my old MBP or with countless other (older) LaCie drives. If I HAVE TO reformat the LaCie drive...ummm...could someone talk me through that process? Or point me to a page that gives a step by step guide? This should be easier. Thanks.

Let it install Rosetta, Rosetta uses a minuscule amount of space on your HD and it totally transparent. In other words it won't make any difference.

While I never had this issue with any of my d2 Quadras (got 4 of them) it should be of no consequence.

If for some reason you still don't want Rosetta installed on your system then simply erase the d2 formatting it in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utility. Once done you have totally wiped it clean and reformatted it and then can use it as a TM drive.

I am having the same problem as somewhitechick1, but every time I try to install laCie, I get this message after click install.

To open LaCie Setup Assistant, you need to install Rosetta. To install Rosetta, connect to the Internet and open LaCie Setup Assistant. If you cannot connect to the Internet, insert your Mac OS X installation disc, open the Optional Installs folder, and double-click Optional Installs.

I am connected to the internet, and I have searched trying to find the right program to install but I cant find it. I don't know how to "let it install rosetta" because it doesn't tell me where to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What does this mean? What is d2 formatting? Journaled? Is that a program, a command, ect. Do I need to try to do this to my external hard drive, and if so, how?

The drive comes with some sort of crapware on it. Don't install the crapware. Just cancel out of the installation prompt, or if you can't do that, force-quit whatever is showing it. Launch Disk Utility, select the icon of the drive, and partition it with one volume (or more if you want). Use the default settings. That will give you a de-crapified, blank drive.
