I am having the same problem as somewhitechick1, but every time I try to install laCie, I get this message after click install.
To open LaCie Setup Assistant, you need to install Rosetta. To install Rosetta, connect to the Internet and open LaCie Setup Assistant. If you cannot connect to the Internet, insert your Mac OS X installation disc, open the Optional Installs folder, and double-click Optional Installs.
I am connected to the internet, and I have searched trying to find the right program to install but I cant find it. I don't know how to "let it install rosetta" because it doesn't tell me where to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you know what this "Setup Assistant" does? You certainly don't need it to use the drive. It's obviously not being maintained, and I suspect that it's just garbage.
Well, I bought this LaCie external drive. I am trying to install it so that I can back up my files. But once I plug it in, I can only get to the set up assistant that then gives me the previously mentioned message. I just want to use the external hard drive I bought.
I concur with Roger... I have 3 d2 Quadras...
“...simply erase the d2 formatting it in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utility. Once done you have totally wiped it clean and reformatted... “
Have Never Used any Proprietary Software on any of my External Drives... and as a consequence have had NO Issues...
Cheers, 🙂
I like that answer.
... 🙂
Ana,
What does that mean? And/or how do I do that? I haven't even had a chance to use my external hard drive because of this problem 😟

Sorry... What does what mean...?

What does this mean? What is d2 formatting? Journaled? Is that a program, a command, ect. Do I need to try to do this to my external hard drive, and if so, how?
BTW, I really do appreciate your help. Thank you.

The drive comes with some sort of crapware on it. Don't install the crapware. Just cancel out of the installation prompt, or if you can't do that, force-quit whatever is showing it. Launch Disk Utility, select the icon of the drive, and partition it with one volume (or more if you want). Use the default settings. That will give you a de-crapified, blank drive.
I think this worked. Using the disc utility and partitioning it worked great. I am now backing everything up with time machine. THANK. YOU. ALL. 🙂
You're Welcome... Glad you got it Sorted... 🙂
