I cannot open up Logic Pro. This is what occurs: I click on the application and the icon bounces for a bit then stops but nothing opens. I have repaired permissions many times. I even installed the 10.6.6 Combo updater (over 1 GB to download.) When I did that, it opened - once. Then I quit the program and back to the old behavior. I re-started the MAC and it opened again, once - then nothing. Now I have tried re-starting a number of times and it will not open again. I guess I could re-install the combo updater but I don't want to have to do that each and every time I want to open up Logic Pro. I have the latest version of Logic Pro - I checked my software updater. Any helpdirectionthings to try - would be greatly appreciated.

I am happy to do so but that leads me to two questions: what am I looking for and what can I do with the information once I've found it? Is that something I can post and have analyzed by the Logic or Apple community? Thanks.
I cannot figure this out - here is what I see in the console app (I changed my last name to [....] for privacy):

you must try to start logic while you observe the log and then post the messages that logic writes to the log. Select "all messages" in console.app to make sure you're not missing anything. Post the messages related to logic here. I don't see any logic messages in what you posted.
That's what this post is - I copied the console log from the time I opened Logic till the time I forcequit the program. Right now I am re-installing Logic - I'll post back if that fixes the problem. Thanks.
I'm updating this post. I trashed Logic Pro, then reloaded it from the original DVDs, then updated it. Then I re-started the computer and it worked - once. I tried to re-start and the same thing happens - it seems to want to open but it never does. I then have to go to force quit it - it shows up there but nowhere on the desktop - and that's it. It won't open any more. I don't think it's an external plugin because it did not re-scan the plugins after the re-install. I don't know where to turn next. Can I contact Apple direct with a problem of this magnitude? I have nothing else I can even think of to try. This is a true mess. Anything anyone else has to offer, I'm all ears. Thanks.
Are you sure Logic is quitting?
Which version are you using?
After it opens once and you quit the program, open "Activity Monitor" select "My Processes"... see if Logic is still showing up there, if so.....force quit.
If Logic is not quitting and you're rebooting it possible (probable) Logic's preferences are being being corrupted.
It's the latest version of Logic, I believe it is 9.1.3. And yes it is most definitely quitting after I force quit the program. If I don't force quit it, it will remain in that perpetual state of being open without being accessible. When it opened after I re-installed the program, it was perfect - but only that one time. I then quit it and immediately tried to re-open it with the same results I've been getting for the past two days. I agree - I think that something is being corrupted -but I don't know what or how. Also, even after I trash the plist, it does not change anything. I've repaired the disc permissions many time with no change. I'm at a loss ...
besides the other suggestions: Are you using Bootcamp? If so, go to the spotlight preferences and include the Bootcamp (Windows) partition into the private properties to prevent Spotlight from indexing it. This solved the issue for others with the "bouncing Logic icon and not starting thing".
Doesn't "Software Update" automatically update any Apple products? I own Final Cut Studio and of course have Quicktime but I know that I've run the Updater a number of times so I am pretty sure all my software is up to date.
I don't own Bootcamp - not even sure what it does. I have noticed however, that my indexing is going endlessly. I have reformatted some of my many hard drives. I have many TBs of audio samples and each drive has a backup drive - I use SuperDuper to back up - and I just finished organizing the drives. Could that be a problem?
Yeah, of course. The Startup problem with Logic was related to Spotlight indexing, and the Windows partition used to restart it's indexing after every boot. So, including the drives & volumes you don't really need to be indexed in your private list (which means they are excluded from spotlight indexing) should help a lot.
If you are not sure, wait for spotlight to finish it's indexing before starting Logic and see if this helps. This might take some time if you recently added huge volumes.
Resetting the index just restarts indexing from the beginning - it will take a lot of time until it's done. Leave you Mac switched on & running over night.
