How to authorize a new iPhone??

I just got my first iPhone recently. I'm trying to update some apps, but I need to log into my iTunes account. My phone came with some generic account, and I have no idea how to change it over to my actual account. I also need to change it so I can authorize some apps on my computer.. How do I do this?? I hope I don't need the password for this default account because I don't have it. :/

My phone came with some generic account,

There is no such thing. Where did you obtain this phone? Is it used? Sounds like it has another person's content & iTunes account on it. You can't transfer iTunes content to another account. If this content was not obtained using your account, you should: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings(plug into a wall outlet if not a 3GS or iPhone 4). This will return the phone to the state it was in when first removed from the box. Connect to iTunes, name it what you want & sync your content to it.
