Verizon iphone 4.... trying to add custom ringtones to phone...

Just received my New Iphone, yay!! Having some difficulties though adding ringtones and assigning them to my contacts. It will only allow me to add 1 custom ringtone so when I go to contacts it lists that 1 ringtone and the other standard tones.. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help..

Hello, not sure I understand what you are asking. You can assign each person/contact their own ringtone. The iPhone at this point I don't see a limit on Ringtones. However you can only assign the ringtones in your ringtone directory. Ringtones for the iPhone have an extension for MR4, and you cannot use MP3's for ringtones, they need to be converted.

If you are looking to make ringtones there are many options, search google for that and pick something you like. Not sure if you are using a Mac or PC. I have heard Mac users like Garageband, I use Aiseesoft iPhone Ringtone Maker.

I have been trying to add custom/purchased ringtones to the verizon iphone 4 as well and it doesn't seem to work. The re-naming tricks aren't working (then won't appear in ringtones on itunes)- even previously purchased ringtones don't transfer over (ringtones box is checked in preferences)

For the time being it looks like we are stuck with the default ringtones

Works here. My Verizon iPhone 4 has two custom ringtones, both custom made using instructions found on many different sites via Google. I don't know what all you guys are doing to not be able to have multiple custom ringtones, but it's got nothing to do with an inability in the phone. How are you adding ringtones?

Are they visible in iTunes, do they play in iTunes, are they in the ringtone folder in iTunes, have you set them to sync in iTunes?

No on is "Stuck" with the default ringtones, there is something missing.

That is not the question being asked, and I'm pretty sure this is no different with the CDMA iPhone and the GSM iPhone. There is no reason for this to be different with each iPhone 4 model.

To select a different ringtone for a contact than the default ringtone, select the contact in Contacts. Select Edit for the contact's info. At Ringtone and Text Tone, select the ringtone and text tone for the contact. Select Done when finished.

Getting them in to iTunes and iPhone is another. It may not be possible.

Of course it's possible! As I said above, I've had no problems adding two custom tones to my iPhone.

Come on my fellow geeks! Is there a way or not?

Well, that's a good question. As the process was extremely intuitive and easy once the ringtones were made, I'm not sure how to answer it. Thus far, nobody on this thread who is having problems has provided any step-by-step information on the process they have tried that isn't working.

Basically, I just double-clicked the .m4r files in the Finder, which added them to iTunes as ringtones, and then synced my phone and there they were. What, precisely are you doing and seeing?
