Open from scanner Acrobat 9 pro fails

I am restricted to scanning with Preview because Acrobat 9 collapses every time I try to open from scanner and that causes my Mac to give me a black screen until I unplug the scanner (a simple Lide Canon 70) from the USB port. Any suggestions?

Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Preview uses a different scanner driver to Acrobat. Have you installed the [LiDE70 scanner driver v12.13.1|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900323301.html]?

If you do have the scanner driver installed then what settings do you have selected in the Acrobat Scan window? I just tried scanning from Acrobat 9.4.1 using Canon LiDE200 and worked okay for me.

I installed the driver you suggested v12-13-1 and yes, scanning did work faultlessly. That may have been the problem -- an outdated driver. Time will tell if it is consistently doing its work. Someone suggested to install the optional Twain plug-in and launch in 23 bit mode. Any comments about that? Thanks.

I have not used the optional TWAIN plugin so cannot advise of its operation. As for running in 32bit mode, this can be helpful with older models of scanners with outdated drivers, but since the LiDE70 is relatively new and Canon does have a scanner driver for 10.6 then it is not needed.
