Can't review apps (that I purchased through App Store)

The Mac App Store isn’t letting me rate apps, even for the apps that I purchased through it. I’ve tried it with free and paid apps, and I can neither give apps star ratings, nor write reviews. Clicking stars does nothing, and when I click “Write a Review” it just jumps me to the top of the current MAS page and that’s it.

I found in a search that some iTunes users a few months back were seeing very similar behavior in iTunes, but I haven’t come across any threads concerning the MAS.

Before I file a bug report with Apple, has anybody else seen this?

Hi,

Quit the Mac App Store.

Make sure you aren't logged into iTunes. From the iTunes menu bar click Store / View My Account then click: Sign Out

Now repair permissions.

Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done.

Restart your Mac, launch the Mac App Store and try rating apps.

Hello !

The exact same thing happens to me : I can't post review in the Mac App Store, even for apps I purchased there. I did what Carolyn suggested :
- signed out in Itunes
- launched Onyx to verify and repair Disks Permissions
- restarted my Mac
but still I can't post any reviews in the Mac App Store. Any other idea to fix this ?

Hi there !

Glad to see that I was not the only one ! However, this issue has been fixed for me. I have no idea how since I did nothing different from yesterday and before - except downloading a new app two minutes ago on the Mac App Store (but I'm sure this is not related !... ;-)) Anyway, I can review and rate apps now and hope the same for you.

Indeed, it seems to work now. Since the MAS like the iTunes Store is apparently just a web site being displayed within the app, I'm assuming that it was a server-side problem with the pages that they were delivering.

So for the record, the solution in these cases appears to be, "Just wait, Apple will eventually do something about it." 🙂

You can go so far as typing out the review? I haven't seen it fail there.

What I've been doing is writing my reviews in a text editor and saving them separately, then posting them later when things get back to normal. Just so I don't lose my work when the server is acting up.

Hopefully Apple'll get this all sorted out on their end before too long!

I don't know if this is the same problem, but I was having issues writing reviews on my new ipad2. I could give apps a star rating, but the moment I tapped the title box or review box, "submit" greyed out, and I couldn't undo it except to cancel. Well, I figured it out: the "nickname" box isn't optional! As soon as I filled that in, "submit" became active again. Hope that helps someone else! :)
