USA Gift Certificate in the UK

Question

USA Gift Certificate in the UK

My friend in the States has sent me a $10 iTMS voucher for Christmas but I find I am unable to spend it because my account is in the UK for the UK Store and I don't have an account in the USA.

Entering the gift certificate code in the UK store tells me it's for the USA and doing so in the USA store tells me my account is only for the UK.

How can I access my gift here in the UK?

iBook, Mac OS X (10.4.1)

I think you probably need a US address to buy from the US store... you could (i guess) set up a new account with his address and use the US store to buy...

But what's the point?

I cannot set up an account in the USA as I do not have a bank account there and am not resident.

I understand the copyright laws etc so thought Apple would let me use the voucher where my store is???

What's the point in offering vouchers if you cannot spend them?

No wonder Apple are creaming so much money from iTMS!

As you have discovered, you can't send gift certificates across borders. Send it back to your friend so he can use it himself.
