MPEG2 template and YUV 4.2.2

Question

MPEG2 template and YUV 4.2.2

Within the MPEG2 set of templates, there is the option to set "YUV 4.2.2 color encoding" within the Inspector Encoder settings.
My understanding is that for DVD the color encoding is 4.2.0, so this looks like it sets the color space at 4.2.2.
This must mean better color resolution, or not?

MP 2.8/8 cores, MBP 2.8, 16GB RAM,, Mac OS X (10.6.3), ATI 3850

I tried it and the result was black video and audio breaking up

DVD is actually 4:1:1 color sampling. The highest possible color sample quality comes in the camera when footage is shot. After that, you can not improve color sampling. HDV is 4:2:0, DVCPRO-HD is 4:2:2, film is 4:4:4.

For DVD, you'll get RGB 4:1:1, that's what DVD uses.

I don't want this for DVD. I want this to obtain highest quality MPEG2. My understanding is that a color space of 4.2.2 is better than 4.1.1 or 4.2.0 etc.

Another point is that the outputted file will not play in QT or MPEG Streamclip, only in VLC.
