WebWolf,
Can you fix it?

No, but you can. 😉

Try using iCal>File>Export...>Export for the US Holidays subscribed calendar, and save the exported calendar to your desktop. Then delete the subscription and double-click on the file on your desktop. Make sure that you select "New Calendar" in the "Add events" window, name it US Holidays, and you will have your very own US Holidays calendar available for display. Then add Easter to your very own holiday calendar.

If you live in the U.S., you will also have to fix _election dates in November_.

Thanks, Ferd, your excellent input to this forum is greatly appreciated!

I guess we'll get a clue when the next OS comes out, with perhaps a revised iCal. I suppose if Apple were serious about this omission, they would update the Holiday Subscription and then everyone who downloads the newer version would have it.

Is there a way to let Apple know that we miss having Easter in iCal? Granted, it's a religious holiday and not an official US holiday but many families plan events around Easter. I had actually planned an out of town event over that weekend before I discovered, to my dismay, where Easter was this year. The problem is that Easter comes on a different date each year; often in a different month...

It really needs to be in iCal!

Easter is a religious holiday. It doesn't belong in the generic US Holiday Calendar. Recall the concept of separation of church and state. It's also not a Federal holiday. This holiday might be found on a separate religious holiday calendar. I am sending a suggestion to Apple that they not include Easter or any other religious holiday in the "US Holiday Calendar."

Other than your obvious anti-Christian bigotry do you have a reasonable explanation for not including major holidays in a calendar. Many people schedule vacations, trips etc.. Around holidays, and not reflecting these makes any calendar fairly useless. I dont't care whether it also shows Passover and Ramadan. Also Apple is not yet a sovereign government, so you can stick your separation argument. I think they' would try to keep their customers happy.

What is really strange is that even if they keep religious holidays off the standard US Holidays calendar, it should show up on my Canada Holidays calendar because Easter is a statutory holiday in Canada. But it is not there.
And I agree with doctorotr. I like the idea of putting all the holidays on the calendar. It gives us something to drink to throughout the year. Like 'Talk like a pirate day' on Sept 19.

I don't think there's any anti-Christian thing going on, because Christmas certainly wouldn't be on the calendar if there were. Perhaps they're using the requirement that only holidays when the federal government is closed are put on the calendar - Easter always falls on a Sunday and the government is already closed on that day. I do think it's odd that it's not there, though, because there are plenty of business that are usually open on Sundays that might be closed for Easter, and no matter what religion you are it might be nice to know that.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it isn't a federal holiday, but neither is Cinco de Mayo, April Fool's Day or Groundhog Day, all of which they include (and they included Easter every year up until now). Also, it is a major holiday which a majority of U.S. households at least pay tribute to if not celebrate.

On the other hand, I can see where putting down everyone's holiday could get cumbersome as well (and even major holidays like Christmas and Easter are celebrated at different times by Orthodox Christians, for example). And if it was taken to the extreme, then they'd have to put everyone's religious holiday. Personally, I'd rather have Easter excluded from Apple's calendar (certainly not my own) instead of having Muslim holidays, for example, on there as well. But, it is a little weird, since I just subscribed to the Christian holidays calendar and it wasn't on there either!

Amazingly, Easter Sunday is also missing from the iCal Christian Calendar--which makes me question the competence of the calendar's creators! Regardless of your views about religion, the absence of Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday on the iCal Christian Calendar--three of Christianity's most important days--is a truly ridiculous omission. Could the calendar's creators really be that clueless?

In my opinion, Apple has abandoned this and put their personnel to work on other more pressing, read newest and latest, projects.

It is a discourtesy to the business community, as well as the religious community, that the latest holiday calendar for US Christian holidays (and that would be heavy on the US cultural acceptance of the Gregorian calendar of events) is 2007! WT...!!!

I had a meeting that I had to be at overseas that fell on Good Friday this year. I didn't mark it because I didn't have access online. So, how am I going to find that date when Easter has moved to several different weekends since 2007?!! Very unprofessional and either shows disdain, incompetence, or neglect to the religious component of our culture, primarily, and business community, secondarily, that, even Apple, has to include in their yearly marketing plan to enhance their success in seasonal sales.

Apple, delegate ONE employee to take care of the coming year's calendar for major events. I'm sure marketing would have someone that has his/her fingers on the pulse of important events that influence their forecasts and all it would take is publishing them to the list of calendars in early December.

I think I should get some consulting fees here, don't you think?
