.mov not playing on Internet Explorer

Hi I am trying to get a .mov file to play in Internet Explorer. From my readings I had understood that the new version of Quicktime 7 included a plug-in that allowed Internet Explorer to play Quicktime movies. I have installed the latest windows version as will as followed all the plug-in prompts. Initially it looks like the .mov file is loading but the progress bar in the controller just travels across the bottom of the screen with no sound or image showing. The controller is the only thing visible of the .mov file after Quicktime symbol initially flashes on the screen. I know the video isn't corrupted as I can play the file perfectly fine (with both sound and video) on my Mac running Firefox but it is when I switch to a PC running IE that I encounter a problem.

The About Quicktime Plugin tab on the controller says I am running version 7.6.9 which is what I understood to be the latest version. I have also imbedded the videos according to the instructions on the Apple support page to enable them to be view on IE.

CLASSID must always equal:
clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B
CODEBASE must always equal:

PLUGINSPAGE must always equal:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

I can not figure our why this file is not able to be viewed on IE. Could someone please help me solve this problem as it is necessary that this file be viewable from both Mac and PC.

Thanks for the link to the updated code. I am working on Blackboard CE6 so I'm not 100% that I can get Javascript to work here it seems so only allow HTML.

I'm afraid I can't post the URL as it is a password protected site that can only be accessed but university students or selected employees but this was the original HTML I had on the site.

<OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" WIDTH="768"
HEIGHT="576" CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab">
<PARAM name="SRC" VALUE="/webct/RelativeResourceManager/Template/ARPA370_unit CD_ 2010/Otzti videos/BBC Iceman doco discovery and recovery.mov">
<PARAM name="AUTOPLAY" VALUE="true">
<PARAM name="CONTROLLER" VALUE="true">
<EMBED SRC="/webct/RelativeResourceManager/Template/ARPA370_unit CD_ 2010/Otzti videos/BBC Iceman doco discovery and recovery.mov" WIDTH="768"
HEIGHT="576" AUTOPLAY="true"
CONTROLLER="true"
PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/">
</EMBED>
</OBJECT>

I am more familiar with working in HTML than with Javascript but I did give this new code a go.

In Dreamweaver I created this JS file

function InsertSampleMovie()
{
document.write('<object classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B"WIDTH="768" HEIGHT="576" CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab">\n');
document.write('<PARAM name="src" VALUE="/webct/RelativeResourceManager/Template/ARPA370_unit CD_ 2010/Otzti videos/BBC Iceman doco discovery and recovery.mov" /><PARAM name="AUTOPLAY" VALUE="true">
<PARAM name="CONTROLLER" VALUE="true">
<EMBED SRC="/webct/RelativeResourceManager/Template/ARPA370_unit CD_ 2010/Otzti videos/BBC Iceman doco discovery and recovery.mov" WIDTH="768" HEIGHT="576" AUTOPLAY="true" CONTROLLER="true"PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/"</EMBED> \n');
document.write('</object>\n');
// JavaScript Document

and then in the HTML enabled window I entered this code

<HEAD>
<script src="[path]/InsertMovie1.js" language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"></script>
</HEAD>

<BODY>
<script language="JavaScript"type="text/javascript" >InsertSampleMovie();</script>

</BODY>

As I said I am not confident that JS will work in this format but also I did not fully understand the third step on the instruction page you provided so there is every chance I have just made a huge balls up of the code.

Any help would be much appreciated

I'm sorry I can't help you about giving you access to the site (is there any other way for my to give you that information (source code etc)?) but I can tell you that the file does play. I can view it without problems on any Mac it is only when I move to Windows that I encounter a problem.

I will go to the site you mention and see if I can fix the problem there.

OK I have tried using PAGEot with the same results (all I can see on a PC is the control bar, while on MAC I can watch the video no probs)

This is what Movie Inspector said:

Just as I expected. The wrong format and codecs.
It is a QuickTime file in name only and is actually a Windows Media Player file (.wmv) inside a .mov container.
WMP files play on the Mac OS via QuickTime Player only if that machine has also installed the free Flip4Mac component. Windows users don't need QuickTime Player to view WMP files because they all have Windows Media Player installed. Microsoft ended support for WMP for Mac's in 2003 and third party vendors now fill the gap (Flip4Mac).
If you want PC users to view the file (and want to use QuickTime browser plug-in) you'll need to pay for one of the Flip4Mac upgrades to convert the file.
