Verizon Iphone and Contacts

Hi, this is a sync question regarding contacts with the new Verizon Iphone. Once we have imported these using VZ Contact Transfer, what is the ongoing process to sync and update these in Itunes? Or is there a process to get these into Itunes and managed locally on my PC and not have to go back to VZ in the future.

You sync them to a compatible program ( address book, outlook, etc,) on your computer via itunes.

Have a look at the manual.

iTunes does not store contacts. iTunes serves as the sync conduit for syncing contacts with a supported address book application on your computer.

With Windows, the iPhone supports syncing contacts with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing calendar events and notes, or with the address book app used by Outlook Express with XP and used by Windows Mail with Vista and Windows 7 called Windows Contacts or Windows Address Book for syncing contacts only. This is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.

If the supported address book application on your computer is not being used and is empty - no contacts, before the first sync for this data enter one contact in the supported address book application on your computer. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select. After the initial merge, contacts between the two will be kept synchronized with following syncs with iTunes.

First thank you for all your prompt responses and help.
I did find this morning that on My Verizon they are not pushing the new Verizon Contact Transfer as the method to update and maintain your contacts if you do not want to utilize Outlook, yahoo. etc.
Only things is if you the user do not remember to sync the Iphone with VZ contact transfer ever 30 days they will wipe your contacts off Verizon server.

What is your current Verizon phone - make and model?

If you are syncing the contacts on your existing phone with Verizon's database, you must be paying a monthly fee for this since I don't believe Verizon provides such a service for free. Doubtful the same is available with the iPhone since there is no need to pay Verizon for this with an iPhone. With an iPhone, you can sync contacts and calendar events over the air with a Gmail account accessed as an Exchange account with the iPhone's Mail app, which doesn't cost anything.

If not, as already provided the iPhone supports syncing contacts with a supported address book application on your computer with iTunes serving as the sync conduit for this.

..could it be that there are a million of us trying to do it?

Could be and sounds like it.

Sounds like Verizon's network is overwhelmed in this regard. Welcome to what Verizon made fun of AT&T about over the last 3-4 years.

Have you contacted Verizon's customer or technical support regarding this problem?

Are your contacts available via Verizon's backup service not available on your computer and there is no way to transfer the contact's from Verizon's backup service to your computer?

On my current Verizon phone (waiting for my new iPhone) my contact info is auto synched between the Verizon database and my phone each day. Is this not so with the iPhone?

Most Verizon phones other than the iPhone support BackUp Assistant, a downloadable (or pre-installed) program that backs up your contacts to Verizon servers. It's free. There is no version of this program for the iPhone. When you switch from another Verizon phone to the iPhone, you back everything up with BackUp Assistant then download VZ Contact Transfer from the iTunes Store. That will put all of your contacts onto your iPhone. You must do it within 30 days of activating the iPhone. After that, the data is deleted from the servers. It should still be possible to access that information by accessing your account through www.verizonwireless.com for those 30 days. During that time, you should be able to view, print or export it.

Once your contact information is on your iPhone, you need to decide how to manage it, through iTunes, through GMail, any of the ways outlined in the manual. Verizon doesn't provide any automatic back up. The iPhone must be manually synced every 30 days or backed up contacts will be deleted from the server.

While not a huge issue for me, the Transfer App times out with a "network error". Could be because it is a business phone, but the Droid 2 that I traded in worked fine on "backup".....could it be that there are a million of us trying to do it?

If you get an error, you need to exit the app and wait +at least 5 minutes+ to try again. It takes that long for the server to end an interrupted sync.

Sorry if this appears dense (this is my first smart phone), but I keep having the network connection failure/timed out/blah, blah, blahcakes, too. So I should turn off my wireless home network - am I understanding that correctly?

I tried looking on the manual but either was not looking in the right place or it wasn't there.

Argh! I hate feeling stupid...

Unfortuantely, I am having the same problem where my Verizon contact transfer keeps giving the error: "We're Sorry! VZ Contact Transfer was interrupted." I am not touching any buttons when the transfer is started, my wifi is off, and I've tried several times over the past 12 hours.

When I first got my Verizon iphone, I made the transfer with no problem. I accidently synced with my macbook where the contacts were different and are not displaying in international format. I wiped out all the contacts on my phone and would like to get my verizon contacts back but nothings working! They are still available online, I can go to the verizon web site and see them...just not transfering to the iphone.

Thoughts?
