Verizon versus AT&T iPhone 4

I have had every version of the iPhone since it first came out. Our coverage area for AT&T is pathetic at best with no 3g coverage. Can someone that has switched fro AT&T to Verizon tell me if Verizon is a better carrier overall for the iPhone and are you glad that you switched. I am definitely interested in changing but need some input from someone that has changed over to Verizon.

I used to be a Cingular customer. Glad I switched back to Verizon. There are a lot of pluses when switching to Verizon. With Verizon, there is way better customer service, way better return policies, way better signals, practically no dropped calls (if you get one, it is most likely the other end that dropped), and the iPhone is much better because it now has Verizon's service. With Verizon, if your phone breaks or you need a replacement, it takes 1-2 days to receive the new equipment and you are never without a phone. With AT&T it takes 1-2 weeks and that because you have to send the phone AND sim card to AT&T because THEY want to put the new sim card in! No lie. My ex-girlfriend was without a phone for 1 1/2 weeks and all because they wanted to put the sim card in the new phone she got. I thought that was strange to say the least. Just send me the phone and I will insert the card myself. And that is another plus with Verizon, NO STUPID SIM CARDS TO WORRY ABOUT! Also, AT&T offers a LIMITED data plan and wants you to pay per 2 GB per month. Verizon offers unlimited data plans. Verizon is just an all around better company because instead of just getting cool phones, like AT&T did with the iPhone, they also update their cell towers making them the leading company with a broader range and signal strength. Granted, there will be places you go with AT&T where Verizon's signal strength is poor, and Verizon areas where AT&T's signal strength is poor. But your best bet is Verizon. I have been a customer for several years now and don't plan on leaving. Unless they get greedy like AT&T and get rid of their unlimited data plans.

There are plenty of existing and former Verizon subscribers who don't agree with this.

practically no dropped calls (if you get one, it is most likely the other end that dropped)

There is no way you can know if a call is dropped on the other end. I'm a former Verizon subscriber and their former "can you hear me now?" advertising campaign was certainly applicable since I was having to say it on a regular basis and far too often. I switch to AT&T because of poor reception with Verizon where I lived and the places I frequented most. I had to step outside in my back or front yard to ensure a call was not dropped and if a call was dropped there, more than likely it was Verizon. After getting an iPhone and not having to step outside my house with every call, I still had a business phone with Verizon, so I was carrying both with a side by side comparison. I ended up having my Verizon number forwarded to my iPhone since reception and no dropped calls was much better with AT&T than with Verizon where I lived and the places I frequented most.

BALONEY. AT&T does not handle iPhone exchanges under Apple's warranty. Apple handles ALL iPhone exchanges under Apple's warranty regardless where the iPhone was purchased. You call AppleCare to handle everything over the phone and you are never without a phone unless your existing phone can't be used - AppleCare ships the exchange to your door the next business day, or you can make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby where an iPhone will be exchanged under warranty on the spot.

Also, AT&T offers a LIMITED data plan and wants you to pay per 2 GB per month. Verizon offers unlimited data plans.

Verizon's unlimited data plan is not unlimited. There is a 5GB limit per month - uploads and downloads, which would be very difficult to reach. Reaching 2GB in a month can be difficult to reach.

Verizon is just an all around better company

As with beauty, this is in the eye of the beholder.

Unless they get greedy like AT&T and get rid of their unlimited data plans.

Verizon is the epitome of "nickel and dime" their subscribers.

I called and asked them, but the person said they are not. But I don't know, maybe the rep wasn't told about it yet or actually didn't know anything about it. But either way, those who sign up now are in an unlimited plan and I suppose they will be able to keep it as long as they don't cancel or change their plans or data plans. Who knows. Greed is existent in all these cell phone companies. It wouldn't surprise me at all. They would just lose a customer and I would go to a crappy cell phone company like Metro PCS and pay 40 bucks for unlimited everything and just live with the 800 dropped calls a day.

Verizon & AT&T are two great careers that offer decent data plans and great features. However, AT&T has been made a laugh because the iPhone 4 has an antenna problem, but whom design the iPhone? Apple did, not AT&T. The Verizon iPhone has only two advantages over the AT&T iPhone: Less drop calls (that's because the data isn't interrupting the call) and the hotspot feature (which AT&T will soon get in an update on iOS 4.3). Seems to me that Verizon doesn't have anything over AT&T. Besides, the Verizon iPhone can't do data and voice at the same time; so if you're using the hotspot feature and get a call, the hotspot is useless. Yet, people are willing to pay $20 when you get free wifi at any starbucks, McDonald's, etc...
I say AT&T has Verizon beat big time

So having a phone you can't use in other countries is a plus? Having a phone you can't do data and voice at the same time is a plus? Having a phone that is slower on 3G is a plus? You can keep your verizon service. I will keep my AT&T service. Even though I only have Edge service where I live it is still reliable. As far as dropped calls since you have only been a Verizon customer how would you know about dropped calls. I used to have a motorola razr on sprint and it dropped calls way more than AT&T with the iphone ever did. I get dropped calls sometimes but that is because it is the nature of cell phones and how they work. When you compromise the antenna on a phone you are going to have reception problems on any phone and any provider. Verizon is not immune to the dropped calls no matter how much you think they don't drop them. I could also blame the dropped calls on the other person too but how do you know which end dropped the call? You don't. Only the provider will know that. Enjoy your Verizon iphone but don't bash us GSM phone users. Oh one last thing when we complete our contracts we can switch to another GSM provider. You are locked into Verizon only so you will not be able to do anything about it because your phone is hardcoded to Verizon only.

Well that is funny because AT&T did the same thing. Me and my son both have unlimited data plans on the iphone and got to keep them when they went to the limited plans. At least AT&T isn't going to throttle users data if they start to hog the bandwidth like Verizon is doing.

I have not heard of anyone being able to switch to another GSM provider with their iPhone. I will probably wait until the new iPhone comes out later this year and then have a better idea of the Verizon iPhone experience.

Are any of these micro-detail arguments really important? Choose the carrier and plan that gives the best service, plan and price for how and where you will be using your iPhone. All of our iPhones - both ATT and Verizon versions - will be outdated in the blink of an eye!! Both carriers will be using LTE for 4G service in the near future, anyway. And who knows where we will go from there!!

There are no perfect carriers out there...

T-Mobile their 4G (HSPA+) Network is faster than ATT or Verizon cause they have the first 4G phones in the US...other carriers are still rolling theirs out...Note that they dont mention Sprint? Cause Sprints 4G (WiMax is faster than T-Mobiles...

Verizon is the most reliable Voice Network...But its over rated...Note that they always talk about signal bars and nothing to do with surfing the web...

ATT always talk about faster network and talk and surf cause they know verizon cant do it with their network...

The only carrier here dont try to bash heads is Sprint...
