8 GB RAM works in Macbook 5,2 Early 2009

Just in case anyone is wondering, I got 8GB of RAM to work on my Macbook 5,2 under

Snow Leopard 32-bit
Leopard
Windows 7 x64

I Googled this extensively and hadn't found anyone else who was able to get this to work. So I thought I'd be the first to tell everyone.

I own a macbook white 5.2 2.0 c2d which is runnig fine with 10.7.2 and 2x2 gb ddr2 800

just got 2 stick Hynix ddr2 667 4gb each, popped in and the machine won't boot, just a chime but black screen.

I tryed every combination of the two in the slots, funni is it wuold not boot even with 6gb (4+2).

firmware and smc should be latest avaible and the correct one!

any thoughs?

As you have found out I don't think you can install 8Gig in the white MacBook with DDR2s, I thought the highest you can was with a 2 and 4Gig resulting is 6Gig, but your tests prove that wrong, which maybe because your using lower speed chips 667 over 800, What does your system required? Ive tried and failed the same with the my iMac and had to lower my expectations to a 2 and 4, but got 8Gig into my 2.4Gig Aliminium unibody MacBook.

Well, ram is definitly ddr2 667, i'm talking about a macbook pre unibody

Tryed every combination possible with stick in the slots, i tryed also to mix

The ram with some old 512 stick ddr2 667 which alone, very slowly, booted

Fine, but no luck

I have the exact same firmware and smc as stated in other

articles but the computer does not even boot

Hey mo679,

I agree with David, I think it's your OS. The hardware looks fine. Has anyone got it to work with Lion? I'm still using Snow Leopard and the one's that got it to work were also using Snow at the time. I was about to upgrade too! Now I'll definitely wait and see if anyone has got it working with Lion before upgrading. Good luck!

Hello everyone!

I know its been a while for the thread now, my brother asked me to upgrade his 5,2 early 2009 macbook 2.0 GHz from 160GB hard drive and 2 GB RAM, i found this thread and he is very interested in 8gigs of RAM, so i am planning to update his software to the latest mountain lion and some nice ssd plus 8GB of ram.

Any advice for the upgrade? Those 8GB kits are epensive dont you agree??

Hello everybody

This is an old post I know.

I have a macbook 5.2 which originally came with 2GB 800Mhz DDR2.

Its now running 4GB 800Mhz DDR2 with OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion

I have been planning to upgrade to 8GB 800Mhz DDR2 still with OSX 10.8

Has anybody tried this configuration?

Khaledw were you successful?

I'm concerned as I can find no confirmed reports of anybody running more than 4GB in Lion or Mountain Lion!

Thanks in advance Rory

Hey rhtoc,

and this is a heads up to everyone too. My macbook 5,2 is running Lion and has been running smoothly since I installed 8GB 667 MHz DDR2. It's hard to say how hard my battery performance was affected, but it did shot up my fan use. It's pretty loud and often is on for a long time (1-2+ hours) but it's still kicking. But yea all and all it works great. I'll have to post what happens when I upgrade to Mountain Lion. Hope it helps!
