Q: application to iBooks problem: iTunes account already used for apps

Hi,

I work at a publishing company, where we have an iTunes Connect account we use to sell apps to the appstore. I'm trying to use this same account to distribute iBooks as well. So I go to the application portal at https://itunesconnect.apple.com/WebObjects/iTunesConnect.woa/wo/7.0.0.9.7.3.1

where it says you can submit multiple different media type using the same accoutn as long as you apply seperately for each. I choose Books from the dropdown, then fill in my First/Last name, AppleID, and password, check the box to agree, and then I get the following error:

"The iTunes Store account entered has already applied to distribute Apps on the iTunes Store. To continue with this application, you must enter a different iTunes account."

I don't understand this as it seems to contradict the other information about being able to sell multiple media types with one account. Am I supposed to make a new AppleID? A new iTunes account? What do I need to do to sell iBooks?

please help!
many thanks

...and no customer support to offer good solutions on this. It kept me from not only doing iBooks with Apple, but also using iCloud. If solutions aren't made easy, people will not use them.

So on Thursday I was approved for iOS Dev Program and I had an iBooks registration even before that.

I DID use another Apple ID for that, but provided same company information and etc (as for iBooks registration). Even though it took some time to verify everything,  the Support team was really helpful and guided me through the process well. So for me it went without much trouble.

    Hope it will be helpful.

There was no support team or contact info for problems for my application request. All I have now is a blocked Apple ID with "application pending" if I try to do anything with it. You got lucky!

I just cannot accept that I have to enter my personal information into two accounts. This appears to be a PII issue that should be impossible, not recommended, from a process perspective.  I am trying to remove my existing contracts so I can just have the one Paid iBooks Application contact and can avoid a second account with personal information and tax id.

This looks bad to me. A surprising process bottleneck that I would expect from other companies, but not from Apple.

    Sadly disappointed,

    Audrie

I have applied last week by itunesconnect for an account to the Itunes store to publish my ebook. After having completed the first part of the applicationprocess I saw a message that I should get an confirmation to my email account (which I entered as a valid Apple ID) with further instructions to finish the applicationprocess. Until now I have not received such a confirmation. For now it is impossible to finish the process and to publish my book in the ibookstore. If I try to apply again the message is showed: "The iTunes Store account entered has already applied to distribute content on the iBookstore. To continue with this application, you must enter a different iTunes account." To set up a different Itunes connect account is impossible because of the message: "The legal entity name entered is already being used for an iTunes Connect account that distributes Book. To access your account, sign in to iTunes Connect. To continue with this new application, you must enter a different legal entity name." and: "A publisher with this U.S. Tax ID has already applied to distribute content on iBookstore. To manage your iBookstore content, log in to iTunes Connect with your existing account."

Supports and helpdesks do not help me further. Does one of you have a clue? I will be very graceful.

Same problem I ran into and Apple offers no support whatsoever for this outside of a few FAQs.

Basically, they want to steer you to a third party aggregate to handle your publishing. We have avoided Apple for all our books because of this.

I've got the same situation as everybody else in this thread. Pathetic.

What third-party aggregator do you prefer? Is Smashwords good for this purpose?

    OMG!!!

I finished my ebook with iAuthor and had everything ready and stuck here?

Any solution or feedback from Apple?

    Nothing. Zero.

They're letting us out in the cold.

I think it's ridiculous.... but what can we do? Nothing.

This is what killed me stone cold, too.  I was rocking through my application but entered something wrong on the tax ID number.  Now I have no way to get back into my application.  WTH?  And if I open a new account, it says my name is already on another application.

    ARGH!!!  Anyone have a fix?

As you can see from the little response to this thread over time, there is no solution. Sorry.

Once you get into application limbo, there is no way out except to set up a completely different account with names and emails. Apple has no obvious phone or email support for this part of their business.

Methinks they consciously did this to get anyone but a larger company to go through their third party aggregates.

I applied a new account, looks like it is only way to solve the problem at this stage. Apple does not bother to give us a reply at all.

Like I said, there's method to their madness. By putting this kind of roadblock to the process, they weed out anyone but the most savvy to the Apple program. It was never designed to be user friendly for the basic user.

    Hi all,

I'm a paid iOS developer, and wanted to sell an ibook, and just discovered this problem when trying to apply to distribute on the iBookstore.

Luckily I hadn't started formating my ebook on iBooks Author. So, i guess my options are selling on Kindle as i don't want to go trought the assle of waiting for approval on another contract with Apple.

I guess there will be a lot of potencial sellers going to sell elsewhere because of this issue. Apple, please consider changing this policy.
