application to iBooks problem: iTunes account already used for apps

Hi,

I work at a publishing company, where we have an iTunes Connect account we use to sell apps to the appstore. I'm trying to use this same account to distribute iBooks as well. So I go to the application portal at https://itunesconnect.apple.com/WebObjects/iTunesConnect.woa/wo/7.0.0.9.7.3.1

where it says you can submit multiple different media type using the same accoutn as long as you apply seperately for each. I choose Books from the dropdown, then fill in my First/Last name, AppleID, and password, check the box to agree, and then I get the following error:

"The iTunes Store account entered has already applied to distribute Apps on the iTunes Store. To continue with this application, you must enter a different iTunes account."

I don't understand this as it seems to contradict the other information about being able to sell multiple media types with one account. Am I supposed to make a new AppleID? A new iTunes account? What do I need to do to sell iBooks?

please help!
many thanks

Having a similar problem. Apple never responded to my application in late December and now won't let me resubmit using the same iTunes account. Apple does not offer any online or phone support that I can find for their program. I've had my problem up for quite a while so it appears that those staffers do not check the forums. Have not run across any of the regulars who might know of a solution.

Do both of your Apple ids use the same Taxpayer ID Number (TIN)? When we tried to add another account with the same TIN in order to sell iBooks (we are already set up to sell apps), we get an error telling us that we can't use the same TIN in both places. Really? I need to have two separate companies to sell apps and ebooks? I must be misunderstanding something, because that makes no sense at all. Can anyone help here?

I have EXACTLY the same problem. Submitted my iTunes Connect application in December and no response since. Unable to find any contact e-mails or phone numbers. Have talked with everyone I can think of at Apple to no avail. As a stockholder and 30-year supporter of Apple products, I'm not very happy about all this.

Does anyone have contact info?

Agreed.

A process that took me 10 minutes on Amazon is amazingly difficult here.

I'm presenting for Adobe Systems on eBook production next weekend and my advice for users will be to avoid iTunes for commercial distribution at all costs.

Sending stuff for free? Just drag an ePub into iPad, etc in iTunes.

Selling or distributing via online channels? Convert to Kindle and enjoy a hassle-free 70% commission for stuff under USD10

This is downright ridiculous. I am very happy about the new iBooks Author app! Finally I can make beatifull books for the iPad without any knowledge of the ePub format. Absolutely utterly cool.

So I want to create an iBook Store account. And it does not allow me to since I already use my Apple Account for developing for iOS.

This is just sick.

So I need:

- a seperate company

- a seperate creditcard

- a seperate account

APPLE, ARE YOU MAD!?????

bliekp I completely agree! I also have an app account and got the same message. Requiring you to set up a new App ID and company to sell books and apps is completely RIDICULOUS! So if I want to sell videos I have to set up a third, different company and Apple ID for that too???? This is complete insanity.

How can a company that produces such great products be so inefficient underneath?

I went ahead and set up a new Apple ID and this has caused all kinds of problems - I happened to update to iOS 5.01 on my iPad and when I try to sign in with my original Apple ID it says this is not permitted! It told me that the Apple ID already exists. I contacted support but have not heard a word back.

I have registered with iBooks, but will also need to sign up to sell Apps really soon. Posts in the thread confuse me a lot, since they are mixed to the point of being mutally exclusive.

So do I really need a separate TIN/EIN and company or what?

I mean Apple is quite specific that I'll need another Apple ID for every time of content

"If you currently have an iTunes Connect account to sell another media type, you cannot create a second iTunes Connect account with the same Apple ID. You’ll need to set up a new Apple ID and use it to complete a separate book application."

But - really will Apple flag a mistake for using same legal address, company name and etc?

Still hope @sfomel is right and/or I'll be lucky not to face all the above mentioned problems.

Will definitely post here to tell how it went. In the mean time I suggest using that e-mail ibookstore@apple.com

I did hear back from them.
