Q: Powerbook doesn't want to boot from cd anymore

Hi everyone,
My girlfriend's PowerBook G4 crashed, so I tried to boot from a 10.4 dvd I have. The computer booted once from the DVD, but then I had to shut it down for logistical purposes (understand: I had to move it). Now, it doesn't want to boot from the dvd anymore. When I insert it, the dvd reader just ejects it. I tried pressing on the C key and cd boot from Open Firmware but it didn't work (except for the first boot)...

Anyone can help?

If the 10.4 DVD has a gray color & it's from another model Mac, it won't boot. Some how the Mac may have been "fooled" the first time.

    Can you describe the "crash"?

Try inserting the DVD in the disc drive while the Mac is not running. Then startup while depressing the Option key. Does the 10.4 DVD show up as one of the sources to boot from?

Will it boot in Safe Mode? See

Takes a while to run, but it usually "fixes" problems.

Doesn't your GF have the restore DVDs that came with the PB G4?

     Cheers, Tom

When I press Opt on startup, yes, the 10.4 DVD appears. The problem is that the trackpad button is out of service, and mouses don't work at that time, so I can't select it...
