Locking apps on iPad
I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I'm stressed to the max and didn't want to search through the forum.

Philly_phan; that is the most idiotic suggestion on this thread. Why should we go out a buy an entirely different product when we could just get a simple software solution for our existing products? Please keep your fanboy B.S. to yourself. The number one rule in technology is the problem should always try to be addressed with software enhancements before hardware changes are ever considered. Thanks for playing, but what an epic FAIL!

The number one rule in making purchases is to investigate the products to confirm that they do, in fac, meet your requirements. The iPad does not meet your requirements. The MBA does meet your requirements. Gee... Which one should you have purchased?

My question is why does Apple not allow this functionality? Anyone know why a developer cannot build an App to lock apps or folders, and then get this app in the AppStore? An answer that only says that the iPad is a single user device is not helpful, so please pass on posting this response.
If you can help me understand this issue, then thanks in advance.
There is no other answer. Apple has not made the iPad a multi-user device. They have not included the features you want. They have not said why. Unless and until they do, anything we say would be speculation which is prohibited by the Terms of Use of these forums. I'm sorry if that doesn't satisfy you.
What I'd really like to see is an "app" that allows me to lock out certain fun game apps for a period of time (like set a timer limit), this could then be used as a reward.
After doing a set amount of time on some educational apps first, the Ipad would then allow for some game time.

Submit your feedback to Apple:
You never know what they may decide to include in the future.
Nothing like a new product coming out to uncork those old - and contentious - threads. 😀
I know I'm late in getting in here, but it's not always a case of just keeping children from getting into apps. I'm a college student and I have some friends that like to play practical jokes. If I were to let them play with with iPad (as I have in the past with my phone) they would get in and change settings, post absurd Facebook statuses, etc etc. I don't need or want them doing that but I also don't want to have to keep my iPad on lockdown all the time.
As others have said its absurd that apple hasn't included this. I'm gonna go look up my warranty and see if it's up yet. If it is I'm gonna jailbreak this thing for that functionality alone.

Perhaps what you need are new friends.
It's not Apple's responsibility that your friends are immature enough to screw around with your property, or that you give them access to a device that has open access to your personal information. I teach elementary school students that this is not appropriate.
Ipads are great tools for kids, they take so easily to the UI. It would be at the child's loss to not have access to it, due to not being able to have a the ability to lock some apps down.
It was immediately clear to me, and "lock down" is exactly the "term" I used to find this thread. Instead of wasting other's time with a senseless post I suggest if you have trouble understanding a question just wait a bit for other more erudite users to provoide some productive answers. Then perhaps all will become clear to you. If not, well, then I hope I never encounter you driving on the highway. Definitely one of those dudes who leaves a turn signal flashing for 30 miles...
Most excellent point. We are using iPads in an industrial setting, and there is an obvious need to lock certain apps. It is a design flaw, and it needs to be corrected bien rapido, da prisa, apurase manzana!
Ah, yes, what one would expect from freakin' Jersey. Can't help it, must be pitied and/or ignored. Kidding, kidding! We have to use iPads for security reasons. No choice. The decision was made for us. Ergo the "number one rule" is actually don't make assumptions about what the number one rule should be. Stay on track here. It's a software issue. Easily corrected. Just needs the attention and resources properly directed. It's a great idea. Apple should just do it.
Now, since yer from Jersey, just for fun hold your tongue firmly between your thumb and forefinger and say "My teacher has a big red Apple".
Do it.
As previously stated, somewhere in this mess of a thread, you can let Apple know here:
Cogent point. Thank you. But that's already been done. BTW I didn't find this to be a "mess" of a thread at all. There's a few weeds growing here & there, but for the most part it's a healthy plot with some good, juicy melons to pick.
